Brake Reservoir Cap Retrieval

So I’ve clearly been a bad person in a former life.

I finally got the right rear discs and pads and all fitted along with a new calliper and hose. Took the cap off the reservoir and it dropped down the side. This seems to be a self contained metal area and I can’t reach it. Is there another way in or just order a new cap? FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎

Have tried, it’s under some hoses - was hoping it might fall out the bottom like most things but this seems to be a closed space. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k

No, the reservoir sits in what seems to be a separate compartment to the engine bay. It fell down the side of the reservoir so there’s little space available to even get a look in

The compartment may be open at the bottom, I can’t tell… FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k

So the only way the is to remove the wiper arms and undo the black plastic cover that covers the wiper mechanism and reservoir. Or just get a new one but knowing JLR prices you might need to remortgage ! 2013 FL2 XS.

If you pop out all the plastic clips along the front edge you may just get in just enough.

There are some photos under the plastic panel here:

Thanks both. I’ll have another look this morning. I’ve ordered a few off Amazon for delivery today in case one of them fits. Supposed to fit most Ford models. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k

Got it. Many hours with a USB inspection camera locating it then getting something small and flexible enough to reach the cap. Ended up putting hot glue on the end and quickly locating the cap. Worked like a charm

Drill a hole in one corner (as one says: the corner of the World) & attach a "string line"... to the edge of the cap.

But then again, remove the wipers & give the area between the two fire walls a good clean. While at it install acoustic insulation!

You could even add a pre low level dust/dirt filter over the intake into the cabin while at it. A piece of open cell foam https://www.bunnings.com.au/jack-900mm-gut...p_p3042417 Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Definitely a good idea about putting a tie on it.

As for removing the wipers etc, I think my nerves have had enough of trying to undo 10 year old joints that may or may not create more work for me 😂

The issue with wipers is that they can be really hard to pull off the splines if corroded. I bought a mini-puller for them.
