Hi all, after 25 years of Land Rover ownership I've decided to move on from LR. I've picked up, off all things a Mazda 3.3D Takumi.
I just hope its going to be as reliable as my last 2 FLs.

Going electric on us think I'm going to let one of mine go later this year, the Tambora to have a van seeing that my daughter is calling on me to more work at their home in Wales, and also need a van for the evermore trips to the tip with garden stuff.

Looks very nice, I think I can confidently say it will never be in my pay grade.

To be fair, this one is on a lease. I couldn't afford a near £50k vehicle outright.

However I've seen the same spec vehicle for sale, 20 months old, under 15k on the clock for well under £30k. So in a few more years, they will be Freelander money, with ⅛th of the running costs.

I get what you’re saying but will wait and see. Also it’s not just the price of the electric, will Fred in the shed work on them and fix them. It’s hard enough with a relatively normal car like a freelander to get it fixed. These are the sort of things normal people will be considering before they buy something.

There's a growing community for EV owners to get help and advice much like there is for any other vehicle.
Obviously an EV is just a car, but with a different power source. So things like suspension, brakes, fluid changes (yes they still have those, although less often than ICE vehicles), can all be found on line. This will increase as EVs become more common, and more importantly cheaper to buy second hand as more new EVs flood the market.
The different part of an EV is the high voltage electrics, which are best left to the professionals, but there's still a vast amount that can be checked by the owner with suitable diagnostic gear, exactly the same as an ICE vehicle.

All what you have said may be true, but normal people will vote with their wallet. If it’s cheaper than they will buy it , but if Fred in the shed will not work on it and they are forced to pay higher garage costs it will be a no. Money is the only thing normal people will be interested in.

My freelander is still off the road from the beginning of April so I wouldn’t have much faith in getting an electric one fixed.

I think that you will still have lots to interest you in your new car, although lots of problems may be fixed by software, and not hardware.
