P245A-77 fault code. EGR cooler bypass

Looking for some advice on what to do about this fault code. "P245A-77 (EC) Exhaust gas recirculation cooler - bypass control circuit - Mechanical failure - commanded position is not reachable".

It's triggered only intermittently and causes an orange EML which I can then re-set. There don't appear to be any symptoms and the car runs fine.

I've looked for likely faults, broken spring on the EGR cooler bypass valve, and vacuum actuator but there is nothing obvious. The vacuum valve moves into position when you start the car and releases back to it's normal position when stopped.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

Looks like the garage should have replaced that too then?

Cooler can be cleaned but it's a bit of a chew. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

The garage replaced the EGR valve, based on their scan

When I had this the garage diagnosed a blown fuse. They replaced the fuse and it has been fine ever since.
They either didn't tell me or I have forgotten which fuse. Richard M

Have you tried Google for more ideas, other vehicles also use similar system.

For example, this on the generic code of P245A
Says that electrics and rest of system needs to be checked.

Yes, that's the code I have. have you checked to make sure that the vacuum actuator on the bypass valve moves as it should?

On my car the fault is only intermittent. I can go for weeks without it being triggered and it doesn't affect running so I'm just ignoring it for now. Is yours a permanent fault?

The light stays on
If I cancel it, then it comes back on after a few miles
