Most of FREEL2 are diesel owners.

Legend. Thanks Paul. Most of the freelander 2's here in New Zealand are the 3.2L i6. Mostly Jap imports. Diesels are much more rare. |

The specification is on page 162 of the car's Owner's Handbook, but I have a more recent 2.0L turbo. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Handbook states "Use only 0W-30 engine oil, meeting ACEA A5/B5 specification." But I couldn't see a reason not to go up a winter weight to 5w |

Not sure I'd go to the xW-40 though, I seem to recall from another vehicle that the summer viscosity being so low is because oil gallerys are much finer than in the old days when we ran any old oil up to 50 or 60 weight.

Don't imagine the oil passages like medical needles... Didn't saw up until now passages with smaller diameter than 3 mm, not even on the camshaft area towards the hydraulic lifters. And through 3mm and up will flow any oil even when cold. |
