I had similar on mine and it ended up being the EGR Cooler Gasket. £15 for part both sides, but £300-odd in labour as a right faff to get to. |

Sperly. Thanks for info. I've taken the egr valve and cooler off today. Swine of a job. Am planning to put it back together tomorrow with new egr cooler and gasket. I'll keep you informed. |

Has anyone got any tips on cleaning the egr valve? |

Sperly. Thanks once again for the info. Replacement of the EGR cooler would appear to have solved the issue. I had lost faith having done the pressure test but your post gave he enough hope to attempt the repair. A real pig of a job. |

Sperly. It would appear that I haven't solved my coolant loss issues. I haven't noticed due to lockdown and using one of my freelander 1s when I needed to go to work so haven't used the freelander 2 much recently. Changing the egr cooler has stopped the white smoke. I've now also changed the waterpump and cambelt.

Anyone able to offer any help before I'm tempted to throw a match at it?

I had a head gasket fail in my Disco 2, pressurising the coolant. No other signs, car ran fine with no mixing of oil in coolant, Replaced head gasket and sorted. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Bobupndown. Thanks for your reply. The posts I've read on here all suggest that head gasket failure/cracked block is unlikely with the freelander 2 2.2 albeit I am also suspecting that this may be the issue. Hopefully combustion test and installation of egr blanking plate may draw light on the matter. I'll keep you informed of developments. 2000 Discovery 2 TD5

Did you manage to get to the bottom of this issue as I currently have the same problem and looking for advise? |

Pin hole in bottom of top hose where it connects to thermostat housing. Difficult to see as obscured due to close proximity of bottom hose. My recommendation is to change both hoses. Apparently, they are a serviceable part! Worked well for ages but my woes have returned. Currently overpressuring the coolant system and forcing water out of the overflow. I seem to have burped all of the air out of the system, so suspect an issue with the pipe to the bottom of the header tank or a blockage in of the breather hoses from the thermostat housing and radiator. 2000 Discovery 2 TD5
