Wales 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver

Many years ago I found the friction material coming away from its metal back plate on the disc pads of a Morris Marina.
I had heard a strange noise from one of the front wheels and on investigation found what was causing it.
I fitted new pads and all was wall. Obviously I thought it was a manufacturing defect also, but I didn't pursue it.
A free service seems a good comprise but you could have done without all the hassle

Scotland 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e HSE Manual Lago Grey

when we were looking at the FL2 the salesman was telling us how well his demo car went on the sand dunes and along the beach on a Scottish island............so if you haven't owned the car since new, you never know where it's been !!

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Izmir Blue

Hi big jc.Ive had a lot of experiance with brakes and brake discs over the years on a number of vehicals.
You cant judge how much wear you have on miles covered. Its all down to how heavy and how often your on and off the break pedal.
These landrover freelanders are fairly heavy there for take a lot more effort to slow and stop than cars of a smaller size.
How ever, when you break most of the weight of the vehical travels forward thus a greater stopping force is needed at the front than the rear, thats why front discs and pad are changed more often than the rear ones.
From what you have said about the rear discs and pads etc it seems to me to be faulty rear breaks. If it where me i would have photos taken for future evidence and claim that the components were not fit for the purpose they were designed to do,there for faulty and should be replaced under warranty.Oh one last thing,If it was indeed salty water causing the problem then the front ones would be just the same or far worse.Good luck and dont let the little Censored take you for a ride.

Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

Prior to owning FL2 GS Auto which have had for 18 months and covered 22k I had a New Shape Honda CRV 2.2 CDTi. Rear discs were corroded beyond MOT Fail critera at 11 months and 10k, Honda replaced discs under warranty but refitted OLD pads. The reason being " they showed no signs of uneven wear"
This fault was least of troubles, car eventually rejected and replaced with FL2
Only problems in 22k were noisy interior mirror and seat going down, both quickly repaired under warranty.
Regularly off road when officiating at motorsport events, have done full route on last 2 rounds of Scottish championship and plenty of mud at Cross country events. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

Thanks for your feedback. Just to let you know although LR did not accept this as a warranty claim they did offer the next service for free (which it is having today!)

I don't agree this is wear and tear and suspect it is faulty pads but as the service is worth £150 more to me than the cost of new pads and discs I guess I am better off - still not happy with LR though as this shouldn't happen.

I suppose if you launch/ recover boats then corrosion could be limited to the rear discs but as my car didn't have a tow bar this is highly unlikely!

Regards

Jonathan
