JD Power Dependability Survey 2020

https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-rel...lity-study

Sadly JLR came bottom out of 33 manufacturers in the USA (Jaguar came 31st)

The survey was of 3 year old vehicles - ranking faults per 100 vehicles per year. These surveys are usually a mark of how p!$$ed off their owners are with their cars.

When will we see JLR make more reliable vehicles ?? Jules

Oh Dear! Shocked
Sadly this just confirms all the moaning of persons I know who have later model JLR.
Me, 5 years and nothing has gone wrong NIL, everything works perfectly!
Probably JLR should look at reintroducing L359🤔 probably sell better than the D5 which now has $20,000 to try and move them!🙈 MY15

All these surveys are just a vent for those who are unhappy with tlheir vehicles, you pay a lot for JLR cars and JLR don't exactly throw extras at their products for a reasonable price, a top of the range Focus is half the price of a DS HSE and has more goodies, in comes a survey and it says how many defects have you had in 3years? So you add up all the blown lamps and the carpet tha keeps ruffling up. Did it break down and leave you stranded probably no, but it is now unreliable. I had a Disco300 that went through fue liftl pumps every three years, only one was a LR supply, the original, the other two were other makes and failed but Censored all to do with LR, but if I had reported them it would have been nail in the unreliability coffin.
I had a Sante Fe that had more defects in 4 years than the 300 had in 9 non of them stopped either car and both of them had 4 times the FL2 defects in its 7 year ownership and that hasn't stopped, an unreliable car is one that leaves you stranded. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

I 100% agree the survey is useless

My Freel2 has been the most reliable car I have ever owned

I'm keeping my Freel2 it runs too well to sell.

Take care

Paul

PS look out for the Ultra Low Emissions Zones or as Rush paraphrased it "The Motor Law"

If I’d ever taken JD Power seriously, I wouldn’t have bought at least half of the cars that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.

I’d have been bored to death in a Toyota Corrola, wondering why some people enjoyed anything about cars! Mind you, there are some Land Roverists who’d feel short changed if they didnt have something to moan about Rolling Eyes

Come to think of it, there seems to be a correlation between the dullness of a manufacturer and how high they sit in the ranking. Perhaps, when the average Toyota driver drives to the post office, to collect their pension every Tuesday, they just can’t build up enough enthusiasm to remember any problems, in just the same way that I can’t remember very much about my electric toothbrush either.

It's all BS !
I was on YouTube a couple of weeks ago watching a video where some Yank buys a cheap 16 year old 160-odd thousand mile RR L322 and asks whether the audience think he's bought a money pit lemon.
99% of the replies slagged Land Rover in general as being unreliable pieces of Censored and telling the guy he's an idiot as it'll be a money pit, it'll fail on him etc , etc. Toyota's legendary reliability , blah, blah, blah
I pointed out that as the vehicle was 16 years old with 160 odd thou on the clock, then it couldn't have been that unreliable, could it ? So far nobody has replied to this on YouTube. I wonder why Whistle
Survey's are a load of Censored Remember one on the tv (Possibly old Top Gear 20 years ago or more ?) that used the number of people who bothered to write in about their car as a percentage to represent the whole of the car owning public. So by their reckoning, if only 2 people had written in about their car , and both had been positive, then 100% of car X owners were happy with purchase and car X was the car to buy.

You can put the phrase “money pit” on YouTube down to that complete tool, Scotty Kilmer; the Donald Trump of YouTube Evil or Very Mad

Besides, what kind of fool starts with a complex and costly, 16 year and 160,000 miles old, second hand car and expects complete reliability and inexpensive ownership?

YouTube is a bit of a special case - creators buy something like that wanting it to go wrong, as otherwise they’ve got no content, no views and no money. Tyler Hoover is the perfect example - he buys old, unreliable cars and makes lots of money from the content they provide him with!

Edit: Come to think of it, Even Tyler gave up when confronted with a Land Rover product. He got so sick of his Range Rover he buried it in pit for a year. After that it went to Tavarish, who rapidly gave up any thought of trying to revive it. It was last heard of at Demolition Ranch being used for target practice!

Excuses excuses.
So why isnt JLR near the top or at least above other prestige makes?
Are JLR owners more pernickety ? No I dont think so, if anything they are probably more tolerant as they know what they are getting themselves involved with as problems have been in the media for years.

Ok many of these faults are trivial in the sense that they are not usually life threatening but if Id paid a lot of money for a machine Id expect it to work pretty much faultlessly if adequately maintained, apart from normal wear and tear.
Some manufacturers seem better at achieving this than others. The question is why ?

Our three FL2s have been faultless (apart from the crappy HB3 headlight problem in the SD4) and the 3 early Discoverys (1 and 2)we also had were fine . So why cant JLR maintain that level of QA in its later models ?
Maybe moving to Slovaki will improve this aspect. Jules
