My local dealer only stocks the belts, they don't stock the kits with the water pump included...

Gates kit less than £90, locking kit approximately £27.
No other special tools required other than a good socket set and some spanners.
Also required plenty of tea or coffee of your choice.

Did mine last summer. No big deal, just requires patience. Thumbs Up

Which locking kit do you recommend ?
There are lots on ebay; some multi-purpose kits and some very simple ones. Jules

When I did mine, I used a universal flywheel locking tool and a couple of drill bits. Physically hardest part for those without an air impact tool will be removing the crank pulley bolt. Mine seemed to be glued in right up to the last thread - undoing that manually would have given me a dead-arm! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

My next service is 112k. I'm only on 52 Whistle or August.

Now read on here to change water pump along with cam belt but LR don't mention pump, is the reason for this £££'s Rolling Eyes

Also for something so important why stick it in so far down the list Confused Yet they stick washer reservoir top up on there twice Smile

Hi doing mine next month now I've got all the parts needed, parts costings for both sets of belts timing and serpentine inc water pump all tensioners and idler bearings together with new coolant/antifreeze and the engine locking tool needed to do the job under £197 detail costings below. I am changing both the belts and all the bearings, I know it's a bit over kill but whilst it's in bits no extra Labour needed, you have to take the serpentine belt off to do the timing belt, so just the parts.

Gates timing belt kit, inc timing belt, belt tensioner, idler bearing, water pump and crankshaft pulley bolt. £87.27

Gates serpentine belt kit inc, serpentine belt, belt tensioner and idler bearing. £65.11

FUCHS Maintain Fricofin Long life 5 Litre engine coolant/winter antifreeze £17.09

Sealey Diesel Engine Setting/Locking Kit - Land Rover/Volvo/Ford 2.0D, 2.2D/TDCi/Td4 £26.93 inc p&p

Total £196.83

Looking up the Gates website, to get the kit numbers, then onto eBay to find retailers, I can find a range of sellers for the timing belt kit, but not the V-belt kit. Or at least not the one on the Gates site.

Gates give a part number of K106PK1745 for the V-belt kit and I think the 1745 figure is the length of the belt in mm. Other suppliers seem to be pointing me to a Gates K246PK1700 or a K016PK1700, which would imply a slightly shorter belt.

Any suggestions/advice? 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

The two 1700 Gates kits were coming up when I was searching on eBay and entering FL2 details.

Mikey, thanks for the LR part number, which throws up plenty of 1745ish v-belts. Still can’t track down the combined Gates kit, so will just go for the separate LR000996 belt and LR003651 tensioner. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Thanks both!

Unfortunately I’ve had issues with Autodoc in the past ( 10 days for delivery of wrong parts, refusal to replace, so had to go with fresh order and pay again, then refusal to refund once they had received the original parts back - only willing to issue credit note) so they are on my “wide berth” list! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto
