Glad youre sorted, but was it a genuine LR filter used?
Consensous of opinion is that aftermarket filters can give trouble simi;lar to what you described before. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I used a 'Mann' filter from Amazon - I know Mann is a good make - it was this one:

So far, I'm impressed - I'm going to work on the basis that it will be replaced each year... 2004 TD4 Gone

Good to know you got it sorted.

Mann filters are a good product, used as OEM on many vehicles.

The thing is, just because a part comes from Land Rover with their name on it, it doesn't mean they made it, in many cases, they simply buy parts in, add their markup and sell them on again, so long as you're buying a reputable branded part there's no reason to suppose it will be inferior to a part with the LR logo on it and it will generally be cheaper, that's my take anyway. Unfortunately, not always best to go for pattern / 'OEM' parts.

Genuine parts are usually subject to considerably more quality control than 'OEM' / pattern parts and are guaranteed to fit.

For example, Mann fuel filter for FL1 TD4 is too long to fit properly and Pagid handbrake cables for FL1 have to be modified at both ends to fit properly! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

It's always a risk but I will check reviews before I buy and it is true that 'official' parts are often not the best quality either. As with anything, you pay your money and takes your chance.

Often? Really?? Can you cite some examples of this???

I'm with Pedro - official LR Parts, whilst horrendously expensive have been tested thoroughly for durability and all come with a 12/24 month warranty. I don't beleive in putting pattern parts on a vehicle of this complexity....we are not talking about wiper blades here, but expensive and complex components that have been tested throughly to last X amounts of years.

Not some cheap Chinese knock-off that will fall to bits in a year. Not what I want to fit to my investment thank you very much.
