Halogen units of my MY2014 SD XS give disappointing illumination. As i live in a very rural area i need more light!
if i can source 2 HID headlamp units from a Metropolis or HSE Lux, can i simply swap them onto my vehicle and plug and go ?
or will i need mods to my electrics do make them work correctly
last question- will they be self levelling
my car does already have headlamp powerwash

They should be a direct fit but will need configuring which isn’t too hard if you take it to the right person. There will be more info on this site if you do a search. They won’t be self levelling but that won’t be a problem at mot time. I’m an mot tester and this is the guidance we MUST go by:

"Vehicles with high intensity discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with a suspension or headlamp self-levelling system. If these systems have been fitted, they must work.

Sometimes it is not easy to determine if the self-levelling systems work. In such cases you should give the benefit of the doubt."

So, IF these systems have been fitted (which they haven't) they must work.  Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Yes. Mine did.

I bought mine off of a member on here a good few years ago. He had had them converted to work without reprogramming by fitting a separate feed from the battery and some neat wiring controlled by relays fitted inside the lamp housing. That may have been done before anyone knew about reprogramming - possibly a very early adaptor! Reprogramming is only to stop them flickering I think. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

does anybody know of a driving lamp that could be fitted in place of the standard front fogs? that would be a neat way of providing extra lind distance light? FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I think the reflectors are a bit small to be of any practical use for distance.
A purpose built led / hid lamp could have the light output required but cant imagine anyone would make one specifically to fit our fog lights.

Yes, the manual adjuster works for Xenon lights when converted over from halogen.
I swapped the lights on my previous 60plate Fl2, and they were actually AFS ones (swivel round corner jobs) - that function didn’t work, they just pointed straight on, but the beam height worked from the dashboard control.

am fitting Osram night breaker next Gen HB3 and H11 ( fogs) in the next week or so , will see if that improves things enough FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

yes i also fear they will be shortlived but will soon see. i would have preferred Phillips brand - i fitted upgaded H4s to my Defender and that was 4 years ago and they are great , still going strong. Phillips do an Extreme Vision G force HB3 version but not been able to find any yet. May try them if the Nightbreakers prove a flop. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I try to change my H7 dipped Nightbreaker lamps each year, moving them to the high beam position. Never had a lamp blow yet. I never use the auto setting on the headlamp switch as this is going to put more heating/cooling cycles through the lamps, leading to premature failure.

my vehicle has only one bulb for both main and dip beam ( HB3 ) so swopping them is not an option
