‘O9 Freelander, no Bluetooth connectivity on newer iPhones

Hi Gents, picked up the Freelander today(09my).. first thing I tested was phone connectivity and alas, it will not connect to either mine or the missus’ handsets. My question is how do I identify the later Bluetooth modules when shopping online for one? I understand from what I’ve read that I need a 2010 onward module.. is there a list of serials for suitable modules anywhere on the site?

Cheers

Morning Steve, we both have iPhone 12, standard and pro max models, I’ve ordered an aux/BT dongle for now but would love to properly integrate if possible 👍

You have the wrong phone. It's a well known issue for IPhone 12 to have BT connection issues, especially with older Bluetooth standards.

No connection issues with Android devices, as they are designed to be completely backwards compatible. Thumbs Up Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Yes, wrong phones. I have a 63 plate and iphone6 (yes I’m the man with that phone Laughing ) swapped it out for an 11 but couldn’t connect it - seems the latest iPhone that will connect is the 8 Sad . Wanted to retain hands free so kept the 6 which is ok for what I need. Disappointing though as 11 was a nice phone.
Google Land Rover phone connectivity (or similar) and it’ll produce list of all vehicles and phones. You need your VIN number

What do you expect ?

1/ your vehicle is 10/11 years old and in technology terms that is a life time.

2/ Apple are looking for world dominance in the mobile market and the only way they think they can achieve this is by their operating system.

Don't give into them.

The audio system between the 09 and 64 plates are very different. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Needlessly antagonistic, but ok. 🙂👍

That is a shame, do you know if it’s just the pre 10 modules that have the newer iPhone connectivity issue or is it all of them?

Thanks

As I said in my earlier post Google LR connectivity and it'll list everything that is supposedly suitable. I know when I posted a thread about the exact same issue there were some on here that said they'd been able to connect later iPhones on earlier cars but it oidnt work for me; even connected LR who referred me to that connectivity list

If you leave VIN number blank, search will default to the latest available vehicle results. If you already know your VIN number please enter it to ensure results are correct & applicable to your vehicle. Land Rover cannot accept responsibility for accuracy of results when a VIN number is not entered.

So, leaving the VIN number blank and clicking [Next] [Next] and then selecting [Apple] from the drop down list says that iPhone SE (presumably the 1st version derived from the iPhone 6 series) is the latest but iPhone 7 plus is shown under that - nothing later in the Apple list.

I suspect updating the phone list ended when production of the FL2 finished.

Thanks Sid, guess I was just holding out a glimmer of hope that someone somewhere knew how to get it working, perhaps with a later module compatible with my car.. it’s not a major drama if not, I’m using a bt/aux solution as a work around which does the job ok 👍

Thanks Reggie, yeah I had a look on there and found the same, doesn’t look like I’ll get it working, I really appreciate everyones contributions to the convo..

If anyone has any suggestions for decent quality BT/aux dongles please do give me a holler. Thumbs Up

yep same issue here the pie phone 11 would drop out not connect randomly but did pair ok - I hooked up a Blackberry for a while and the wife wouldn't admit it was fine lol, she now has a 12 bu ti haven't tried to connect it yet. Sounds like there is no point.
I don't like apple and their planned obsolescence - doesn't really fit with today's shifting attitude reverting back to make do and mend < i am not that old but lots of respect for that period/ people. so many owe so much to so few... Stewart
