I get peoples aversion to iPhone, my main beef with them is that they’re too expensive, however I use one because of the fantastic camera and seamless integration with iPad for design/creative bits and pieces. I used to be narked about the obsolescence factor/slowing the phones but i’m pretty sure they don’t that now, yeah they stop updating the OS after a period but so do droid I thought?. Outside of art/design I’m fully for make do and mend, my last car was a 19 year old Audi I maintained myself but it became let’s say, uneconomical to repair.. Gutted ‘cause I loved that car, pretty made up with the Landy though, softens the blow somewhat |

You’re right though, I can’t say as I’m impressed by apples lack of reverse compatibility, can’t lie!

Out of curiosity, when my daughter stopped by this morning we tried pairing her iPhone XR with our 2008 FL2. It connected without any problem whatsoever. The head unit generated a pin code to enter on the iPhone and that was it. |

I think the XR is an older phone though? Not sure it’s an Apple issue, more the LR technology |

The XR is a current phone, first introduced in October 2018. |

I've never had an issue with a Samsung Galaxy S or Note device in a decade. Camera is always top notch, battery management is perfect, and software updates are supported for years.

A quick look at the iPhone specs shows that both the 12 and XR have Bluetooth 5.0 so on the face of it, if the XR connects you’d think the 12 would do so as well. My own phone is an old SE and it has Bluetooth 4.2 and it also connects. By and large, I think Bluetooth for phone connections like this tends to be backwards compatible and I doubt if the Apple software interferes with it. Apple does of course use Bluetooth for its tracking capability but again, I’d doubt that that would interfere with regular phone connections. |

I use an iPhone 11 in my 2008 HSE and it connects without difficulty. There is an issue, though, with microphone pickup in the car. This has always been a problem - I can hear callers perfectly, but they struggle to hear me. Several different phones have been tried and the in-car microphone replaced, all without any improvement. I wish that I could improve this aspect. |

I really meant that in terms of an iPhone it's an older model - 30months old now |

But it still has the same Bluetooth spec, i.e. 5.0, as the 12 so there doesn’t seem, on the face of it, to be any reason why a 12 wouldn’t connect. |
