This might be pretty obvious but are you driving pretty economically? Do you have a roof box on the car and a boot full of drugs? If so remove what you don’t need. I like to get to the speed limit fairly quickly but that' about it. AC is rarely on, windows always up (the kids moan if the windows are down).

It all seems to revolve about how many short runs you do.

If your annual mileage is low, then you might as well hang on to your FL2. You will never save enough on fuel bills to cover the loss of selling then buying a different car.

If your annual mileage is moderate, but with many local short journeys, then I would suggest looking at something like a Mitsubishi PHEV Outlander. These will do about 25 miles on the first £1 worth of electricity, then about 35 mpg thereafter. If you are local you could top up charge several times a day. They are about the same size as a FL2, and early ones are depreciating quickly into your price range. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

4x4 does well ove 40mph, various engines and trims to suit.

My wife has a 16plate and today we averaged over 48mpg and typically over 45 for local runs.

They are bigger inside than the look. Well worth a look IMHO

If you are only doing short runs & not that many of them I doubt you will save much money over a year with another car after all the other costs of getting a new car are factored into the equation.

I go through about a tank of fuel a month. I am using about twice as much fuel as my previous car but for an extra $360 a year in fuel I get to travel in style! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Most of us don't need 4x4 for most of the year. My daily commute is 8 miles each way, but would I change my F2 for something else? nah.

I dont think anyone will be able to give you an answer that will solve your problem, just go with your head.

You're probably right. If I had the money I'd probably go for a new car that was a bit more balanced for my needs but I did a LOT of looking last night and there's nothing that gives a clear benefit. So looks like it's FL2 until a lottery win  FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

as previously mentioned Fiat Panda 4x4 excellent all rounder and cheaper to run.

also Suzuki Jimny great for what sounds like your needs, very popular in my area.
