Recently I’ve seen so many evoques up here with blown HB3 bulbs! So glad I’ve got xenons think I went through 10 bulbs in 2 years prior to fitting MY15 xenon headlamps. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

i think its about £60-£70 for the loom plus fitting charges but I think LR stand the costs, not the dealer.

and yet there are so many components that are still active across the JLR range (indicator and wiper stalks, steering wheel, console dials for climate etc, some mechanicals, even the Meridian system is the same but the newer models present it differently on the screen. |

Thanks for that reference which leads to part LR081691. That appears to be a about £25 + VAT each and you need two, if you can get them, hens teeth are probably easier.
Halogen bulbs do not take kindly to being thumped when running. The shutter that provides the change from dip to main beam doesn't half operate with a whack and is right next to the bulb. This resistance wire "fix" will under run the bulbs and make them a little less sensitive to being thumped. It will reduce the light output, but that might not be noticeable. A proper cure could be to stop the shutter mechanisium being so violent. I tried a pair of Halfords +120%, HB3's, great light, lasted 6 weeks... Got a refund on both, Halfords were becoming aware of the problem but hadn't stopped selling to LR's at that point (Feb 17). Fitted some generic, ordinary, HB3's from TMS Motor Spares (£9.82 inc VAT the pair), one has just blown, hence visting the forum to see if LED or a fix was available. The resistance mod might extend the life of the (over run) "super bright" bulbs to that of bog standard. The LTB is quite specific and insistent about how this resistance cable should be installed. I get the impression it gets quite hot, not sure I like that. When I replace the bulbs I'll have a look at the wiring for the shutter solenoid and see if it's pratical to fit a "soft start" circuit. From cleaning out the bit's of exploded bulb last time I don't think the return spring is very powerful. Cheers Dave. The shutter solenoid is connected via a small 2 pin connector. What is interesting is that there is something already in the wiring from the connector to solenoid, don't know exactly what as it's under some heat shrink. The look and feel is of a couple of wire crimps and something small and cylindrical. The return spring isn't overly strong but still causes the shutter to hit its (adjustable) stop moderately hard. Cheers Dave. Current :14 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Tech Previous: Y Disco II TD5 ES, 04 Disco II Landmark. |

Hi JulesK - are LR charging for this fix? My bulb has blown today and andrew page say they only have 1 in stock in the country? Is this the correct bulb for a 2014 model - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-HB3-Halogen....l4275.c10 Cheers |
