Thank you for that. I did find that one in my searching but really good to know you managed it without problem. I have a few other minor jobs to do whilst I have the bumper off so it will all be good practice. I know that removing the intercooler is supposed to be easy but it is the pipework I am baffled about. Thanks again for the help. |

Firstly what was the fault that made you decide you need a new inter-cooler ? Was it oil in the coolant ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks for that, that is brilliant! I have been having a real headache trying to work out all the various different pipes that are for sale. I thought there must be some mistake as there are so many bits but now I can see why. ![]() |

It was the garage (a very reputable Indy) telling me I needed one (they spotted it when it went in for a service). It is in fact obvious to see as there is oil on the front of the car and the intercooler! I have also been told that the throttle body may also be playing up but it may just be the leaky intercooler instead. |

If the oil is on the offside, left from front of car, and coming from the lower grill on the bumper might just be the hose clip loose or cutting into rubber where it joins intercooler. Common problem according to my Indy, just a bu##er to get to. Small hands and a long long socket required. Mine being done next week whilst in for rear diff! Andy

It is on the near side side of the intercooler. As mine may also need a throttle body and I would not know where to start with that I am tempted to just pay up and get it done properly - I do trust the Specialist to do only what is required. I will just check the hose though so thanks for the tip. |

I have plucked up some Dutch courage and decided to replace the intercooler myself afterall and if the throttle body needs replacing I will have a go at that |

There are at least 2 Intercoolers for sale on Gumtree at the moment

Thank you for that. I had not even thought about Gumtree as they are usually collection only sales. The interesting thing about those adverts is that they both say they are for 2006 - 2014 Freelander 2s so maybe there is just one intercooler for all of them! |

All done! It took me a total of about 6hrs to complete but it is up and running again which is a good result as it is the first big job I have done on it. Hopefully you will see in the pics below just how bad the leak in the intercooler was and what effect it had had on the area around it. I could have done it in less time but whilst I had the bumper off I took the opportunity to seal up the parking sensors with silicone sealant as they always went nuts after heavy rain! I also Had to glue back on the fog light cowls as they were hanging of behind the bumper.
