The thing is my insurance is valid until the third week of August. One click without double checking and you are stuffed by them. Also the so called renewal is way above my last payment. im with LV and to be fair their renewal quote came through a month before due date, at an increase of £30 over last year which im willing to bite the bullet on. Quotes from others weren't enough of a better deal to go through the hassle of swapping. I do keep a close eye on renewal quotes though as I know what they are like.

Like you Yorky I had a similar cold call from D&G insurance offering to insure my entire Sky set up and TV for £10 a month as my 12 month initial deal with Sky was almost up. They would insure me for the 1st 2 months free if I signed up now.... until I explained my deal doesn't run out til the end of July so they would be getting an extra 2 months out of me and I may not stay with Sky. Quite a high pressure sales pitch too so I can see certain people giving in and signing up.

Insurance companies are the biggest con going these days, for anything !

I am off the boil and it could be technology taking over as we have current and ex LV policies. How about this for cheek then Bob ? I sold my bike a couple of weeeks ago and I rang to cancel the policy, I'm not going to buy another one. The lady on the phone said , " there are two months left to run you are due a £30 refund, but we have a £50 admin or policy change fee, how do you want to pay ? . She informed me of all the horrible liabilities if I left the bike insured as I could have co - liability in an incident.... I informed her that I'd just have to take that chance ! It all hard work but you could pass that by the insrance ombuds - whatever they are as a threat i.e. the liability and demanding money with menaces .

I have a case running with the Energy Ombudsman now re British Gas and had to demand unpaid repayments of money from SSE and npower recently, SSE have sent a cheque but still waiting for my 15p from npower You may laugh 15p but it started with them telling me I owed them a couple of quid and if I did not pay I would get unpaid charges until it was worth sending bailiffs, spent hours proving they owed me money. insurance is just crazy.

ive just added my 25 year old son onto my policy for a weekend, cost me £15.
to add him on for the year as a named driver added nearly £500 to my premium, so just shy of £1000.
he got a quote for his own policy to drive my car (just out of curiousity) and it came in at around £1500

but the kicker is that he drives and Audi A5 2.0TDi convertible and his insurance is under £700........

..... how the does that work ????

Be careful with this sort of thing as I believe there are scams out there. I used to get calls telling me that my warranty on my Sky box had run out. Would I like to renew it? They didn't hang around when I informed them that I was unlikely to insure a box that was approaching 10 years old..........................  MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

I have been with LV for nine years and just had my renewal letter come through, like you say it usually arrives a month before its due. I was expecting an increase but it was a little more than I expected, I rang them to say I was thinking of leaving (albeit I wouldn't as I don't want the hassle of changing) and they knocked £80 off the price, did the same last year and got £50 knocked off. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

except they had my name and address (ok, common access) but also the contract end date. Pretty lucky phishing to have that as well.
