Wonder if its something to do with the body control module, the thing that tells the vehicle what attitude its in?

I think you may be right about the BCM being the cause of the problem as I have noticed on occasion that the radio stops working and the clock on the radio has reset to 00:00 which is usually a sign of a failing BCM.

Drop a line to Dan at Duckworths might be the best idea, at least for a new one, there are companies that do refurb repairs too if thats what it turned out to be?

Worth checking the battery connections before spending money. I had similar issues with my 07 (clock and trip resetting, radio cutting out) which were cured by tightening the terminals. |

I would check the battery terminals as well, my negative terminal worked loose and it resulted in all sought a of weird faults.
