Sudden loss of Electrics whilst driving.

Freelander stalled today whilst I was in the middle of a busy cross road whilst I was turning right. I noticed as I pulled away from the junction which was a steep downhill incline that the freelander felt as if it was being held back brakes holding on on rear. Before it stalled I noticed a dash message (System Shutting Down) Start button would not respond until the message went off the screen. It started perfectly after this and no more problems on the way home.
Whilst the message was on display all the electrical systems shut down.

Wonder if its something to do with the body control module, the thing that tells the vehicle what attitude its in?
Roll, slope etc? giving back a false reading and confusing the issue for a moment?

I think you may be right about the BCM being the cause of the problem as I have noticed on occasion that the radio stops working and the clock on the radio has reset to 00:00 which is usually a sign of a failing BCM.
How much would a new unit cost?

Drop a line to Dan at Duckworths might be the best idea, at least for a new one, there are companies that do refurb repairs too if thats what it turned out to be?

From a previous post:
I had similar problems with my 07 freelander, poor starting and battery drains, Independent LR specialist suggested BCM was at fault and a replacement would be the tune of circa £1000 so I feel your pain.

Worth checking the battery connections before spending money. I had similar issues with my 07 (clock and trip resetting, radio cutting out) which were cured by tightening the terminals.

I would check the battery terminals as well, my negative terminal worked loose and it resulted in all sought a of weird faults.
Also worth adding a second neg earth lead if you have not done that already. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?
