New Zealand 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Sumatra Black
Alternator Pulley (and rounded starter motor bolt)

Half way through Cambelt/waterpump change i hit a present left by a previous owner/mechanic - a completely rounded bolt on my starter motor (lower bolt so the hardest to get to of course Censored ). So while i'm waiting for my bolt extrator sockets with the cutting teeth to arrive i'm going over the car doing little jobs and checking other stuff.

Anyway.... my alternator pulley spins both ways. I've read repeatedly that this shouldn't happen, and thus should be replaced, although most threads on this seem to be about the petrol model, not the TD4. Also part numbers seem to be for the petrol version as well.

So yeah, i'll stop rambling -
1. Need to replace?
2. If so, anyone got a part number for '08 TD4?
3. Any advice on this rounded bolt would be greatly accepted.

Cheers

Alternator pulley does rotate in both directions but it should only drive the alternator one way. What you have to do is hold the alternator shaft & then see if it rotates in each direction. Usually it seizes & tries to turn the shaft both ways. If you need a new one, part no. is 535005910. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22
Superchips Bluefin Flash
Nanocom Evo II (also sold)
