Just had second service,,recommended that rear pads need changing,,off side worn more than near side.
Thought I would of had more miles before these need replacing tbh,,any way £157 .

Usually the fronts wear out and the rears seize up!

Im on 43000 and rear pads shocked me when I fitted the winter tyres, down to about 4mm.
Service is due do will see what the dealer says, there is not a cat in hells chance they will be changing them though, I imagine it will be a telephone number price

when assessing pads, check the pad material is still bonded properly to the backplate. Mine aren't badly worn but after several years (MY07 35K mls might even be originals?) the pad is coming away from the metal on the rears due to corrosion eating steel I think.

Yes I had the delamination on the rears see this thread. Pads on a Freelander are easy to change yourself, I haven't done an electric handbrake version but I can't believe that it's so much more difficult.

I never believe these brake pad reports, I was told recently that my rear pads were worn and they had only been on a couple of months and I had fitted them myself. If you park the car carefully you can easily see/feel the outer front pad (depends on which wheels you have perhaps) and with a torch see the rear outer one too. (this doesn't prove that the inner one is OK of course). When challenged the garages usually come back with "well we are concerned that they won't last until the next service and we have to say this as it's a safety issue" 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I just had my rears done at about 48k miles. They were almost down to the metal!!

Fronts still seem to have loads on though

Well, we know that our cars are special... It seems we've found a new way. They use their brakes the opposite way to just about every other car I've owned!

Ive seen rear pads wear quickly due to bad rear tyres as the abs will over work the rear brakes to compensate for poor grip due to cheap or worn tyres. I find on mine that I always need to replace all four tires at the same time.
Driving down hill on Wet leaves seams to activate the rear abs quite abruptly as if you were breaking on ice.
I changed all my disks and pads 4 years ago 42,000 miles ago when it went in for service they said there was loads of pad left might be because I fitted Brembo Discs and Ferodo Pads.
