I had a Clio, Megane and a scenic (the worst of the lot). I agree with CG the French seem to hammer there ones and over here they just give up and die. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I went out to Botswana to visit my son last year and apart from an Evoque and a Disco (both with South Africa plates) saw hardly any LR at all, not even old Defenders. Everyone seems to drive Toyota or Nissan Pickup trucks or Landcruisers. My son's company bought 5 brand new Toyota pickups last year and they definitely had more simple electrics than UK ones but his own Landcruiser was full of the usual electronic gismos, dual aircon, fridge etc. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Wife's 2006 FL1 (BMW TD4) has been more reliable than my 2010 FL2 and has higher mileage too !

If u want to talk about unreliability then come see me. My hse lux is now one year old and just gone to the dealer for its 13th warranty claim, that's more than one a month!. About 10% of its mileage is trips to the dealer.

And then there's the loan fl2 car that exploded all by itself as I watched.

'Milothedog', how on earth did u go about getting compensation as I feel I'm due some.

Fl2 still my fave car though. Must be mad.

After all the trouble I had after buying it, I got LR customer relations involved. They were very helpful and liaised with the main dealers involved and got the car sorted for me. I then wrote to LR explaining how disappointed I was with the car and service I had received. and felt they should compensate me in some way for the inconvenience (I asked for a contribution towards the next service) They sent me a nice letter to present to the dealer in the future which says' they will pay for the whole service.

2005 Ex Demo Toyota Rav4 NO Problems:
2007 New Honda CRV severe steering pull to left, back to dealers 5 times and still not corrected even after 5 weeks off road waiting on modified parts from Japan, also corroded rear discs at 7 months.
2008 Ex Demo Freelander2 Auto PERFECT 30k
2010 New Freelander2 Auto, rejected after 9 months, persistent vibration at 70mph. LR denied any fault, but got inside info that LR knew of problem affecting a very few vehicles, told customer relations what I had found out and Bingo a very large contribution to change to SD facelift
2011 SD 18k only fault was fuel gauge tank sensor but dealer damaged diff and prop shaft flanges plus oxygen sensor and heat shields doing repair. Transmission vibration!!! SD gone.
We tried using 1 car for a couple of years Merc 220 CDi , still perfect.
Tried a 2012 Rav 4, Road noise horrendous and auto box something out of the ark!!
2014. Gave in and bought an EX Demo FL2 SD, so far 11k and all ok. Fingers crossed.
I just like the way they drive and could not find any similar type 4x4 that compared favourably. All FL2's (3) Gone

I had a similar conversation with LRCS after my issues and was told that the car was not their responsibility as it was over 3 years old and that nothing would be offered. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎

Maybe it's just down to the discretion of who you are talking to, and of course the manner in which you approach the claim. As they say "it's not what you say but how you say it".

A brief outline of my issues were. Having traveled over 250 miles to view and buy the car on the Friday, it was in my local dealers by the Tuesday. They had it for 3 weeks. In total it was off the road for some 6 weeks, all of that time we had a loan car. A Disco 4,an Ewok, a new FL2 and a Nissan Pathfinder.

The car had not been prepared to the approved used standard. It had a leaking injector and needed new brakes (Pads, Disc and rear Shoes)all round.

Then the difficult starting issues started, It had the battery replaced but when it still played up it was taken back to Cornwall and had new glow plugs and inlet manifold.

This still didn't cure it until a LR assist who came out to the last non-start issue found active fault codes for the cam position sensor. That was replaced and it seems fine since.

I know I could have got a newer car for what we paid for the 07 XS we bought but am glad I bought Used approved scheme as I don't think I would have had all that work done by an indy.

The last time it was repaired, the Dealer also agreed in writing, that if the car wasn't fixed this time they would take it back and source a similar car to replace it with and if they couldn't find one in a reasonable time give me a full refund.

Like I said i'm very happy with the service I received once LRCS got involved.

Ian.

I think I was unlucky with who I spoke to. The fact that you got help with an 07 and I didn't with an 10 reg says a lot. I went through all the proper channels and was polite and yet they wouldn't even contribute to a new battery, which went duff less than 10 months into ownership.

*edit* and the rear pads were 100% worn and one had seized. Consumables yes but in less than 10 months? FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I would say so yes. How many hundreds of thousands of FL2's have been produced? The failure rate of cars with faults will be minimal. We only hear of bad cars as it it because of this why owners seek out forums.

As with the name of this thread 'Observation'. My observation is why are you on here? A lot of posts you write appear to slate the LR product is some way or another and that everything else is better? Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. I think it is safe to say they aren't "so bad", and as you say, forums tend to be frequented by people who have issues with their cars. We are a small minority, albeit vocal.

Why buy them? For me, I just love the car. Love the looks, love what it can do, love driving it. Like a pet dog that Censored everywhere. Pain in the arse but still love it. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

It's a fair question. I am on this forum because we currently have two FL2s in the family that have had serious problems and I like to be aware of issues that others are experiencing in case I have them too.
I was very happy over the last 10 years with our 3 FL1s and our first FL2 was fine so I bought another. This proved to be a nightmare so I traded it in for an approved used and the same week my son also bought an approved used FL2. Both of these have also been troublesome albeit with excellent dealer support from Yeovil LR they are now running OK. I have another year of warranty at which point I will have to decide if it gets replaced, I am retired so no real pressure.
My son uses his extensively traveling around farms and on motorways for which it is an ideal vehicle however he is seriously concerned that although a good design it is not tough enough for the job so he is actively looking at a replacement when the warranty expires (Incidentally his work colleagues have also had various problems so we have a view of more FL2s than most individual owners) From his perspective the DS is just too expensive and his work colleagues are also wondering what to get next.
My observations about Africa are merely that, you don't seem to see LR about nowadays. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
