Winter 2014/15

The cold and the dark loom large now and hopefully time for the FL2 owners to plough through the snow. I will just get by on winter tyres these days (for seasoned members on here, snow groove not included Whistle )

We can expect the Daily Express to issue "coldest winter for 100 years" as they do every winter and despite the fact that they ended up with eggs on their faces because last winter was relentlessly mild. Hardly a frost last winter let alone snow and the rain and wind flooded people out of their homes over Christmas.

I reckon we are in for another mild winter but not as relentlessly mild as last time (touch wood). Although, I have heard that geese were spotted flying south a couple of weeks ago which is early and there's shed loads of berries on the trees. These indicate a cold winter allegedly. Only time will tell... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I've stopped looking these days, today was supposed to be 'lengthy sunny spells' damn thing didn't peep out once, cold all day, looking out now, not a cloud in the sky, won't be long before the frosts hit.
Rowan tree is bursting with berries here, willow tree shedding its leaves yet some shrubs in full bloom, can't make head nor tail of it.

All I know is I have rubbish Comtinental tyres on this car, howl very easily in the dry and feel greased on wet roads, going to be fun, Shocked

The Groove, remember it well Laughing

Watch the birds, they know what's coming, if they start on the berries early, it will be mild, if they leave them till after Chrismas, get the Grooves ready Thumbs Up

I will keep you posted, not as confidence inspiring as the scorpions on the last car, or so it feels. The shoulders on the fronts have worn, in line with what others have reported.
Never found a need for 'snow or winter tyres" common sense and slow down goes a long way.

The bit about berries seems contrary to me, can you explain why.

Those patented and serrated grooves Laughing are still in use by Bob on here I believe. I've got a set of un-grooved Continental TS850's. Epic reviews but after the rubbish mild winter last time, I am eager to test them out properly. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

It does indeed but no matter how you drive, you can't count on others. Back in the FL2 days (with groovy winter tyres), I was driving very steadily through town in heavy snow when some woman in a Micra slid out of an obscured side turning. She had obviously braked at the junction expecting to stop Rolling Eyes

I knew the turn was coming up and was braced just in case but it still needed strong braking and thanks to the winter tyres, I pulled up just in time. I reckon the standard M+S tyres would have seen me bump into the side of the Micra. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

They won't eat them early if it will be a Hard One, they will save them for later Thumbs Up

Last year the birds were eating our Pyracantha berries in November, the year before they didn't touch them till well into the New Year.

Did Madden forecast the weather wrong last year....or the location, because the US winter was very severe.

Madden spouts the same crap every winter and the Express prints it. Because he says geddon winter every time, he is bound to land a cold winter at some point and then boasts about how accurate he is Rolling Eyes

The polar vortex decided to visit the USA last winter and took the arctic with it. This added to our mild weather and stupid rain apparently. Give me snow and cold anyday. 2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11 were good winters with shed loads of snow. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Yeah I know, I was just saying Wink . He was saying week in week out all winter we would get severe weather, and spouting all sorts of excuses. Any part of Scotland that got some snow he jumped as proof of his severe winter forecast. Rolling Eyes
