Project MG Midget

My Father in law recently bought another little toy to play with. Well I say play with loosely as this and the Aston only ever come out when the weather is perfect! The Midget was bought in June this year, and was fully restored about 15 years ago we think. So today it is probably about 75% right now, but could do with a little work to make it 100%.

So he decided to get the interior looked at, as the whole black look made the interior seem dull. So a full transformation was on the cards with Steve at Classic Car Services.

The day we took her in to Steve's workshop :-

The strip down begins!

The interior before he started.

Dash out and was in poor condition paint wise!

Horrible Vinyl!

Steve found that the seat foams were in poor shape, and the seat frames very rusty.

The new leather starting to make an appearance! After looking at the Ivory leather in his daily Jaguar XF S and my Freelander 2 we decided to go with ivory for the MG too!

There were a lot of individual parts that needed to be done.

Steve had matched the leather colour to the paint for the dash, and the dash was then completely stripped and painted to match the rest of the interior. The finish was flawless.

Seat Frames back from bead blasting and powder coating, along with the new seat foams.

Then the re-build carries on!

The old black plastic trim was binned in favour of new brightwork!

New wood steering wheel added as well.

In the new year, it will have a new set of dark blue carpets made and fitted (Should have had these done with the interior, but never mind). Centre bolt chrome spoked wheels, and the little bit of paintwork needed to finish her off.

So really pleased with the end result!

Whilst it is very nice and well finished, the car was originally a cheap sports car, no leather and all the interiors were black.( no head rests on a chrome bumper model) Surely if you want a highly modified body interior for the looks why not play with a replica? I own a Daimler SP250 (Dart) and have been trying to dissuade new owners from fitting rack and pinion steering because the original is heavy heavy, If you buy a classic /vintage or historic then restore to ex factory, if you want the modern looks and toys buy a replica my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

Where I agree with what you say to a degree.

A) You can't beat having the original thing
B) He has done it to suit him, and know one else.

His attitude is that he has respect for those who want to keep things original, in the same way others should respect what he wants to do.

MG Midgets are not exactly rare, so there are enough out there for some to be built how the owner wants it, not how others say he should have it. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Looks superb. I see what you mean with the carpets, as it was being built I thought those carpets need changing, the blue will be a good choice. I also agree each to their own, that's why I have pre facelift FL2 staying that way as I prefer the look in the colour I have. Other colours look better with the new face, but like we say each to their own. Wink
