Facelifting My FL2

Well as mentioned on norfie's thread, the plinth and front bumper were ready at the paint shop, a busy weekend awaited me!

Friday afternoon, so I thought 'first the plinth', basically I followed Mav71's thread, the drilling of the new screw holes in the tailgate was the most daunting, and dropping a screw and washer into the tailgate proved to be a frustrating exercise in retrieval. Plinth on, the rear light clusters would have to wait until the morning as I had lost the daylight.

Saturday morning. First, as the grill surround on the new bumper which was a matt gunmetal, I could imagine it looking very dark, so after seeing what norfie had done to his I thought that would lift the whole grill, bearing in mind that the horizontal bars technically should be the darker colour as my FL2 is a TD4. So masking up the rest of the bumper was the order of the day.

Whilst that was drying I went to swap over the lamp clusters.

I am really pleased with the result. Just waiting for a pair of bezels for the front fogs. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Great job,

I have a new style bumper ready to go on my FL (amongst other goodies Thumbs Up ). I have got the arch spats, but they have three holes and the bumper only has two on each side. I know its a simple job of drilling some new holes but did your bumper come with all the holes drilled? The existing two holes line up with captive nuts on the arch liner, but the new hole wont have anything behind it, so may end up using those plastic rivets.

Iain

Hi Iain

My bumper came with the third hole and with a thread clip fitted.

That certainly isn't there on my bumper (nor is the locating hole for the 'dimple' in the spat). At least I now know how it should be fixed, the question is can I be bothered to file a square hole and go to the dealer for the aforementioned fixing.

I hope you think it's worth the effort in the end. As I said in another post, we have both pre and post facelift FL2s on the drive and the neighbours hadn't noticed the difference when I asked for their opinion.

Really wouldn't worry if the neighbours noticed or not, the day I start buying or changing any vehicle I have to appease the neighbours is light years away.

philclemo, Good job well done Thumbs Up

Don't get me wrong I think he's done a great job it's a question of the facelift being quite a minor one in the scale of things but apart from other Freelander owners I doubt if many people would spot the difference and if you sit inside it neither will you. Still we all like playing with our cars or we wouldn't be on this forum.

Thanks norfie (for your comment and the inspiration on the grill surround), dorsetfreelander and ad210358.

I suppose it's that part of me that wants to make the vehicle a little more unique to me. Obviously sitting in it I cannot see those changes but when I approach it or leave it parked it makes me smile, and I always have to look back when I leave it parked! 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Re the spats I fitted some to my 57, just got some of the screws from lr and screwed into the bumper, you don't need to drill a hole, as they self tap Thumbs Up
