England

Hmm, just read through this thread with interest.
My car, two weeks back, developed a minor whine, a few days after new tyres fitted, I was at first wondering if the new tyres were faulty. The whine however developed and became very similar to the whine last August, diagnosed as diff pinion bearing and a wheel bearing, both replaced and car as good as new.

So, the whine had got worse I called Land Rover on Thursday 27th Feb, out the tech came, diagnosed either diff pinion or wheel bearing, although unlikely to be the latter as the wheel was free and sounded quiet. I received a very nice Jag XF and off my car went to the dealers. The following Wednesday, I received a phone call, "we can't tell whether it is the diff or the front transfer box, can you run it a few days and let it develop" apparently if they change the wrong part LR wont have it back and they will have to pay. The whine wasn't that bad and I understand the situation, I have encountered a similar scenario so agreed.

A few days passed, the whine developing into quite a cacophony now, I ventured back to the dealer for the tech to have a ride out and 'diagnose' the issue. He drove..after 50 yards exclaimed "it's the rear diff bearing" "It had one back in August" I said "Oh? must be wheel bearing then" "Had one of those too" I said. He was a little perplexed then.
So, back to the dealer to book the car in, the first they can do the wotk and provide a loan vehicle is........April 4th Shocked

The whine today has developed into a vibration too, I don't think for one minute that it will make the 4th April, it is getting worse each day, even each journey.

Fortunately for me, it is under warranty, I will keep you informed as to what transpires

For info
Car is MY11 2.5 year old with 72,000 miles

Sorry to hear this Taz.
My garage said they had used a stethoscope type thing to tell that the noise was coming from the front box rather than the rear diff. They originally told me it was the rear diff and it wasn't until it was up on a lift with the wheels turning that they were able to tell for sure.
As it happens the noise got worse by the day but I wouldn't say I had severe vibration as such.
Good luck on the 4th (assuming it makes it that far).

Stuart

Welcome to the club Taztastic
Been there and got the T Shirt so to speak.

Including the production line fitted parts her Ladyship is on her 5th rear left wheel bearing and 3rd rear diff pinion bearing. After the latest replacements the garage said "road test" for a few weeks to see if the noise goes away and the parts bed-in. We have (or rather she has) and no the the noise whining n rumbling has not gone away.

So there is a big red (no kidding) large note stuck on the wall of my study reminding me to call the garage on Monday and say "GET THIS FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL". Please.

And I know what Mike@LR would say: Name, Rank n Number etc., when all the evidence is in front of him/them - just like in your scenario. Twisted Evil

Just what Mike@GM is saying right now on their social media web links re 303 attributed deaths (although not acknowledged by GM) to airbag deployment failures across a range of models would be interesting to know, or is it: Name, Rank n Number etc.. Although that information is a bit difficult to give - if you're dead Whistle

We had similar issues with my wife's Fl2, it was fitted with a brand new rear diff and haldex unit before we purchased it but it always suffered a slight noise which eventually after two trips to a landrover specialist and a dealer trained technician turned out to be a front wheel bearing/hub. Now fully sorted but it took nigh on 6 months for the noise to get to the point where the garage was sure it was the front bearing/hub. I'd love a Fl2 myself it's a great vehicle but after writing this I'm wondering why Rolling Eyes Whistle.
