Yes relieved and impressed.
Even the bloke in the garage was impressed. He reckons that it was Mike who made the difference (the alternative was calling the Land Rover Customer Relations Centre).
So well done Mike!
Well done to this forum too. It was significant enough for Land Rover to put someone like Mike on it.

Pegleg, the Frelander was always a joy to own.....except for that 24 hour period of doom!
Yes, I can certainly say that it does resotre one's confidence in the car/brand.

Really pleased that was the outcome for you. I can only imagine just how sickening it must have felt when you first got the bad news!!

Half of me says well done Mike and LR, the other half says such a component failing in a car built as recently as 2010 is a bit shameful really!

Forum members'experiences such as this can't do much for anyone's confidence in the marque. I am always left wondering what happens to the poor b Censored s who don't know about this forum or have access to the help available from people like Mike or indeed the members here.

Yes I'm really happy with the outcome.

Part of me says yes, it's a part that should not have failed at this mileage, which is true but when such a thing happens it's how the company responds that makes the difference.
In this case I'm just unlucky to have a rare failure on this part. I'm just accepting that. I've been lucky that the company has done something about it. So at the end of the day, I'm a happy person.

Lets be realistic most mechanical components have a typical bathtub failure curve
ie a few fail early on, the majority work fine and continue to do so for a long time, then nearly all gradually fail as they wear out.

The warranty is supposed to cover those unlucky people who have a component failure eary on.
The value the supplier puts on it's reputation for quality depends on how it reacts to those that fail early but out of the initial failure phase.

My point is that there will always be oddball failures like this one.

Can't knock LR in this instance.

I pretty much agree with what you say.
I do think that I've just been unlucky.
Perhaps the warranty could be better in this country
For all manufacturers. I've heard that in some countries
The warranty is 6 years by default. It seems a shame
That a part designed to do 100k plus miles fails
At 30k and the manufacturer can wash their hands of the matter due to
Arbitrary warranty periods if you see what I mean.

Not that land rover washed their hands over my
Problem. I'm quite grateful for the financial assistance
They've given me.
