No offence intended to anyone, but advice about suing multi-nationals comes in two sorts: 1) ridiculously expensive, or 2) utterly useless. There isn't a middle ground.

I must make it clear. I have no intention at all in suing anyone.

Sorry, mate. I didn't mean to suggest you were thinking of suing - it was clear you weren't. I was just trying to say the same thing really

None taken and I know full well that it would not be the chosen path here. In any case my post pointed out that I have zero knowledge/expertise of the part in question so that would need investigating before anyone decided going down that sort of road. However, to make such a sweeping statement as if it is fact is clearly wrong. Expense is all relative and the costs through the small claims court are relatively low as opposed to being thousands upon thousands of pounds. It isn't useless either unless of course you lose but just because they are a dealership with lots of money, that does not mean they will always win. Powerful and wealthy companies have eaten humble pie in the consumer law world when taken on by the consumer who uses SOGA. There is so much more to the law that the half story the papers would have us believe. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |

Having gone though some thing major with another brand to the point I tracked down the contact details for the european and global directors and unloaded I can say your probably going to get little help. My problem was proven to be their problem ( software issue ) which took many months of my life.

Please guys lets not turn this into a forum of arguments. This is the first eruption I've seen on this forum. Yes I'm sure there are many debates but lets keep this civil eh? |

I stand by my point 100%. I know he's doing the right thing here but I just wanted to float the idea just for info and there are a number of cases where the consumer has won and of course there are some where the dealer has won but if you have a strong case then you will not lose solely on the basis that they are a big organisation with lots of money. It would be because they brought a better argument to court.

The protagonists on either side of this "complaint procedural" debate have made beneficial observations on how one can proceed in such circumstances. However, all should note that there is never a dogmatic this or that, a singularly correct avenue or impregnable cul-de-sac, or, prescient eventuality.

+1 not wanting to upset anyone, but I also think I'd keep my professional opinion and the forum separate to be honest. Nothing to be gained, all to be lost. |

Freelanders are lovely cars to drive but I am in the fortunate position that I lease mine over 3 years so they are never out of warranty. Two fault free years but this year it has been in 6 times - not good - I dread to think what the bill would have been if it was out of warranty.
