Hopefully I'll take possession this coming Thursday.

Getting privacy film added before Thu. Was also tempted to get the wheels switched out for some 18" or 19" but think I'll try it on the 17" for a couple of months and see how she goes.

Can't wait Very Happy FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

Thanks for all the kind comments! Two days to go...beginning to get excited Very Happy

Danger is I'm going to spend too much on accessories in the next two days...already ordered a pressure washer and snow foam lance...now find myself looking at parrot devices for Bluetooth music...

All good stuff FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Galway Green
One week in!

One of the things I found really useful on the forum when considering buying a FL was the experiences of people who had recently made the jump. So I figured I'd log some of my thoughts after a week of ownership (and about 400 miles) that future potential owners might be interested in.

For context, I'm quite new to car ownership. I passed my driving test in 1996 and drove my mum's car (an ancient fiesta) for a few months on and off, and then didn't drive again until early 2012. After a few lessons I bought a little Alfa Mito as my first car which I've drove for just over a year - relearning to drive and getting confident behind the wheel - before making the change to a FL last week.

So, my observations:

  • Driving Mito was exhilarating but exhausting! The FL is incredibly smooth, calm and luxurious in comparison.
  • I'm glad I opted for the auto; I had read from several on here that the car suited an auto and I think I'd agree with that assessment
  • The command driving position is awesome. I feel so much safer and in control. Visibility is excellent all around.
  • The http://www.transk9.com dog cages are an excellent addition. They're big (so make sure you have storage if you want to remove it) but built like a tank. Excellent quality.
  • It's deceptively quick (I have the SD4). A few times I've braked late because I've underestimated my speed. In Mito fast felt fast, in FL it really doesn't! Although the brakes seem excellent.
  • I love all the mod cons. Mito had a great engine and was quite a looker, but pretty basic on the inside. The parking sensors make parking a doddle, the climate control makes it so much easier to get a comfortable temperature and the seat warmers are excellent on those cold mornings! The automated folding wing mirrors make me smile every time Smile
  • Fuel consumption I've averaged about 36 mpg so far, with a mixture of motorway and local pottering around. I'm quite happy with that.
  • I've got 17" wheels at the moment and the ride feels really good, although the roll in corners is noticeable but not so much that it really bothers me. I've got some 19" alloys in the shed and I'm going back and forth on whether to tyre them and get them put on.
  • I've added the belkin bluetooth adapter ( http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F4U037 ) so that I can play music wirelessly. My phone (galaxy nexus 2) partners with both the belkin device and the FL2, with music going through the belkin and voice through the FL2. Only had the setup for a few days, but is working quite well so far. I can use the FL bluetooth button to activate voice control on the phone which works ok-ish.
  • I'm still getting to grips with inbuilt GPS. I really like that there's no external wires, the big screen and that it reduces audio volume when giving commands. I'm missing speed limits and speed camera locations tho. It doesn't give much notice for exits on a motorway, I think it's just a mile which on a four lane road with lots of traffic is not always enough to switch lanes. The time to arrival calculations seems a bit random too. My old tomtom was really accurate, but this one just seems a bit all over the place.
  • The arm rests are a god send on longer journeys

Overall I am super happy. It really is a pleasure to drive, I keep find excuses to go drive Very Happy FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

Great to hear that your enjoying your FL2. I test drove the Mito and loved it. It was fun to drive and it put a large smile on my face. I also love the Guilietta, and it would be great to own one with red leather interior, but I love my FL2. I have always been a fan of Alfa's, my mum had a 2004 147 and it was a brilliant car and we both loved it.

I tried to tempt SWMBO into getting an Alfa, but she "doesn't like the interior" of them. Rolling Eyes Big Cry She likes the look of the new Peugeot 208 in blue, which I like too but we'll have to see.

Have fun Smile
