It's quite possible you may have to eventually eat your words Whistle

Nope, I am sure I will never have to eat my words on this one. Range Rover ad Land Rover products will split into two completely different design philosophies.

This will start with the Discovery replacement due I understand at some point next year. As already mentioned, a lot of the technology will be shared, but the styling for Land Rover products is going to take a more rugged utilitarian look. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. All the tech that is on my Evoque is on my new Fl2, both cars at the moment share many components, I doubt LR will change that, they can get two cars maybe more in the future from one batch of components. Both cars will share the new, smaller hot fire engines.

I believe the next Freelander will be more focused towards family life, slightly bigger, a non sloping roofline and not as tarted up as the Evoque.

This is just my interpretation of what I have read from articles and questions I have asked my salesman, it's neither fact nor fiction. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Because if they didn't share the technology between the different models, they would go out of business.

Jag XK, XF, XJ, F-Type, Discovery 4, RRS, RR, Evoque and 2013 FL2 all share the same body control module, which is basically the brain for the central nervous system of the car. Actually XK may not be. this is just one component of many shared.

All manufacturers share the technology amongst it's models. It is far more cost effective to do it this way. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Conjecture can be healthy Thumbs Up . Gives us something to discuss.

2013 LR2 TD4 HSE Manual Fuji White

I live right by the Tata technical centre at Warwick University so I see these cars and their toys/gadgets all the time. It's actually quite cool.
They were riding these electric 3 wheelers sort of like Segways around Warwick campus the other week. Not sure if they're a prototype or just some gadget they built for the fun of it.

Back on topic... I'm not sure why they camouflage them like that though. If they didn't, that would just look like a regular Evoque at a glance (even has the standard Evoque wheels if I'm not much mistaken), so they'd just get on with whatever test they are doing and no-one would be the wiser.
Unless they only do it to get free advertising on sites with new "leaked" pictures and the like.
Who knows...

Doxxen,
You are partly correct. VM's take great delight in taking the wee wee out of the press. Often they do a deliberate leak, keeps the punters interest levels up
However, of course, the main object is too keep ahead, and keep guessing, the competition. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Unless your name is Tata then that statement is just silly.

I think you are wrong there, I don't know Mav but think he may be connected in the parts supply chain and may be privy to info we don't have and for obvious reasons can't divulge too much, I may be wrong though.

My own view too, is that it will not resemble an Evoque, the two brands are distinctly different and aimed at different markets, the success of the Freelander 2 was the reason for the Evoque and it has been very successful, in order to grow the business, Land Rover must produce something different, if they make the next Freelander resemble the Evoque people will change brands.

The FF Range Rover and the Discovery are the flagships of each brand and they will underpin the brand styling, look to the next discovery model for styling clues and I believe that will be closer to the next 'Freelander'.

My point was about the word 'guarantee'

I too work in the supplier base for JLR and others and often see here statements that strongly suggest some 'inside' knowledge but are clearly anything but. There are examples recently that are not just wrong, but downright misleading (petrol vs diesel volumes for example)

For pure styling issues very few people even in JLR know for sure. As an example I know that even the people styling the interior of new models only work on 'bucks' so as to keep external details as close as possible.

That's really my point; I don't want to insult anyone, but the truth is there are a very small number of people who could comment so authoritatively, and they would never be found speculating on an open forum.

Why must it take it's styling from the Evoque? Why wouldn't they create a new image?

Everybody is Evoque daft, LR came up with a stunning design and now they are just ripping it off. The new Sport is heavily based around the Evoque style and to be honest IMO it has missed the mark by a country mile, the front looks good but from the side it looks awful.

Granted no one can be 100% sure how it will look, I'm of the opinion that it won't be another Evoque rip off.

Keep the opinions coming Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
