i'm a bit too young to really understand what she did, I know she stood fast on the falklands and some say ruined the mining communities and some people i know have jumped for joy as their livelihood was taken away

But who am i to judge so RIP Iron Lady Neutral Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

As mentioned earlier, she stood up, didn't give in to the PC tree hugging brigade. RIP Bow down

I don't really remember Churchill (I was born in 1944) but of all the PMs we've had since, Margaret absolutely towered above the lot of them. Not a hint of corruption, fiercely British, enviably intelligent, fully able to support a high-level career outside of politics, truly a family woman totally loyal to her husband and children. I really think that she's the only leader we've had since WSC who could have taken the country through a world war. We'd be a German province now under any of the rest of our so-called "leaders" if there had been a repeat of 1939.

The only thing I can't forgive her for is the destruction of our coal industry, although the reason for it - implacable opposition to communist-led union power - is fully understandable. If only we still had coal today then all this crazy money-wasting so-called "green energy" and dependence on imported power would seem like the lunacy it is. Back in the 50s we were taught that Great Britain is built on coal - we must be the only nation with its own indigenous energy supply who don't have the nous to utilise it.

Rest in peace Margaret, you were truly a Great Briton and the world has lost one of its heroines. Condolences go to your family. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

You should not speak ill of the dead, but in Mrs Thatchers case I am prepared to make an exception.

She was responsible for the 80s culture of greed, sold off the council house stock and de-regulated the rental market. Those on a minimum wage cannot buy or rent a decent house because of her. We are still paying for her mistakes.

I for one will not miss her. John

Don't blame her for selling off council houses, that's a plague on both the political parties. I was a Civil Servant from 1986 to 2006 and know that the stupidity of selling vast numbers of perfectly good houses was frenetically indulged in right through the labour years. Blair and Brown wanted easy cash and cheap headlines at any cost to the nation. Why should upper-class toffs like them care for council tenants or poorer folk? Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

JST, that's the Thatcher I remember. I will never forgive her for what she did in the eighties.

My mortgage came tumbling down and Costa Mendez lived in fear of her.
