I too became concerned at the negative comments regarding FL2's but guess the whole point of the forum is to help others with problems. My 07 SE manual has now done 71k miles without any real issues. I tow a white box (not everyday) and have not had any clutch problems. My main gripe is that my old Vectra had a much better radio/sound system (and DAB) as standard and the clock would keep time with RDS and not be permanently two minutes fast, no matter how many times I reset it !! However, I still enjoy driving the FL every time I get in it.

Switzerland 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Fuji White

MY13, made 10000km since Nov 12 without any problem so far (not even the slightest trace of any). And it was an awesome feeling during some winterdays here in Switzerland when driving home in the night knowing to come home no matter what.

MY2010 & 32,000 miles. Two new tyres.

I did have a fault displayed on the screen briefly and intermittently 'transmission fault - traction loss' that it had to go in for, but the dealer kept the car for a week without it reappearing. It still comes up every now and again but it's only there for a second or two and then goes with no discernible change to the way the car drives. We just ignore it now.

we should introduce you to Oldgeezer - you wouldnt be buying a FL2 after a conversation with him, although he would probably give you a good deal on his trusty FL2... Whistle

You will always find a lot of issues on a forum as this is where people go to find out answers.

But there are way more cars out there that don't have a problem than those that have.

I am probably one of the longest owners on here of an FL2, it will be 6 years in August and it has been just brilliant. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

The best test is how many people have owned more than 1 FL2 and/or will replace it with another.
I think there are many on this forum.

The worst thing about my FL and the cause of 2/3 problems experiened in 60k miles? The dealer. (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc
(Going) 2013 TD4 GS Auto - Santorini Black with black leather. Cold Climate, UK Lighting & Armrest Packs. Privacy Glass. LR Rubber Mats. Full size spare.
60 000 miles averaging 35mpg

(Gone) 2010 TD4 Manual GS - Stornoway Grey. Sold at 3yrs old & 64k miles. Final average consumption 39.2mpg.

Just to put this in context. We bought my wife a VW Polo as VW have always had a reputation for excellent build quality and reliability. 27k, new engine fitted as it sounded like my freely, and the VW was a petrol. Any car from any manufacturer can have faults, they're complex machines nowadays, electronics have a big part to play, and they sometimes go wrong. Before I got my FL2, I had an FL1, supposedly an inherent fault laden car which never worked and was constantly breaking down. Did 50k in it, had to have one injector cleaned the whole time. As has been said previously on this and every other motoring forum, you never hear the good stories, just the bad. I think in the scheme of things, the number of FL2's that are out there compared to the number of faults is huge. So as with anything you buy there's always a risk but luck comes into it. Buy one and enjoy it. If it does go wrong, then you're just unlucky, and you've always got this forum to help you out.

Hi, (again;-)

On a more serious note, yes of course I realise, that forums such as this is where people post problems, and more often tham not get valuable information on what to do, or what action to take. My short membership of this very friendly forum is that it exceeds in this more than other marques forums, so again a big thanks to everyone, especially those who have replied to this post. It was my aim was to redress the balance between good and bad, and this is exactly what the post has done, I think!

Finally I think flylr (wow never knew they could fly, was it an option?Wink), made a very valued comment thay many here are on the 2nd/3rd + Freelanders, has to be a good sign, indeed my 2010 model I'm still waiting to be ready, was a trade in, sold new by the same dealer, and I'm told the guy is indeed now on his 4th Freelander (nice if you can afford it! Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I don't know when I will be replacing mine, but you can be sure it will be for another FL2!! I won't consider any 4x4. Maybe an evoque, but the Mrs doesnt like them. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a FR2 broken down at the side of the road. Awesome!
