Have broken down in friends range rover. Land rover assist will take an hour to come. Car was juddering and smoke coming out of n/s rear wheel. Any ideas to the cause? I was thinking brakes. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I thought that but my friend says its an automatic hand brake. Car was fine for the first half hour. Chilly on the hard shoulder! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

could be a seized piston in rear brakes, as they don't do a lot of work.

We have been stood under a bridge for an hour! AA are here now. 2 degrees outside. AA man says it sounds like something has seized. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Yup, on the back of an AA lorry. Land rover assist coming to the hotel in the morning. We shall see what happens then. At least not too far from home. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

LR assist has been today, they said hand brake had stuck on, common problem, once the brake cools down it releases itself. Fella was there a total of 12 minutes! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I think Id rather stay in the car and take the risk than stand outside for an hour or more in a minus 10 blizzard and die of hypothermia. |

I've a couple of mates who work the highways. Life expectancy on a hard shoulder is apparently 11 minutes. There words are sit in a car on the hard shoulder and you WILL be hit and seriously hurt or killed. Only sensible option is to carry coats and blankets in a holdall. Get out, grab the holdall and get away from the car up the bank! If you're in the outside lane get over the central barrier (between the two opposing carriageways). In all cases phone the Police. I fact they say don't even bother changing a tyre, get out get away and phone for help immediately! |

We broke down near a bridge, had a dog blanket in the back that we used to keep warm with and stayed under the bridge about 50 yards away from the car. Quite chilly but lived to tell the tale! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

As mentioned above, please don't stay in your vehicle on the hard shoulder. I've seen the consequences too many times.
