Not as posh as you pinks! Just want standard lights!

Thanks ey for that guide, I was sure ceiling lights in bathrooms needed to be ip65 but apparently not?! So in that case most things go?

just thought, the kids have dimmers and tend to leave there lights on all night - albeit low... So any recommendations for standard b22 dimmable globes?? Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Always thought of doing that but I have an irrational fear that I would drop my ipad in!!

Besides - stopped in a posh hotel once with a tv in the bath. Was watching the football and nearly shrivelled up when I got out I was so pruney! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

You are allowed mains lighting in bathrooms provided the correct fittings are use, they are in the correct zones for the type of light and that all lighting and anything else that is bathroom safe is proteded By an RCD with a tripping currant of not more that 30ma.
Take the new JCC 7 watt recessed down light. Although the unit is mains 230v this is sealed inside and is IP rated. The LEDS are them selves extra low voltage and are contained with in a sealed unit and give off very little heat unlike GU10s which are very hot and wear out quicker. The whole light fitting is fire rated so no seperate hood is required unlike some older types.
These are suitable for zone 2 and up, zone 0 being in the bath tub, zone 1 being from the tub up to a certain height where as height after that being zone two. Before anyone askes i would have to look in the on site guide for the exact hights as I cant remember off the top of my head lol.
The 7 watt LED fitting is the equavalant to 50 watt gu10 halogen but are garranted for tens years once registered with the company. You electrician will do this for you.
There are several types of light varing from cool light to white light, and come in a varity of colours.
Basicaly, you get what you pay for, the more you spend, with in reason the better the fitting.

To comply with regs recessed spots at 240v only have to be sealed units directly over a bath or shower cubicle, normal spots can be installed in the same wet room to the areas not in direct contact with steam,
Building regulations I am now building new housing on insist on low energy GU10 type bulbs which are either LED or like a miniature florescent tube inside a glass bulb, they are really poor light for the first 30 seconds or so but light up quite ok after that.

Ive fitted these GU10 low energy lamps as a direct replacement to the halogens. Found them to be quite a tight fit and hard to remove from older units after they have failed. They are not pleasing to look at and the light is not as good as the new LED units.
Ive just compleated a barn convertion and the customer wanted LED lighting in his kitchen through to his dressing rooms and bathrooms. When compleated the lighting looked very good and with LED the light is instant.

sick and tired of replacing 12v transformers in the bathrrom or bulbs

Going to swap 5 downlighters to GU10 as they seam to cope better with dimmers

I think I want fire rated ones, with the back of it enclosed as you would for safety, (or do hoods work just aswell) obviously need to be class 1 shower rated as one will be directly above a shower enclosure

http://www.screwfix.com/p/jcc-fireguard-fi...240v/96280

unfortunately screwfix seems to have stocking issues Evil or Very Mad

will these type fit in dimmable LED GU10 bulbs, if i ever feel flush enough to upgrade them?

Or is it best to push the boat out straight away

also, am i right in thinking that the current regulations mean i am unable to kill the power myself and undo screws on the old transformers and redo screws on the new GU10 fittings/JCC fittings

changing a nearly like for like fitting?

Also how do you activate the JCC warranty for the 10years cover, does this need doing by a electrician etc

EDIT just read the fact sheet on JCC, the end user registers the warranty so jobs a good one

also, which is a added bonus, i can relay the 200mm of insulation on top of the jcc ones, which i would not be comfortable doing if i went with GU10, so not only do i get lower electricity usage, i can also get my roof insulation back too, as its piled off and away from the current lightfittings and has none Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Great news I only need to replace 38 bulbs- previous owners had these bulbs all over!!!

I have thought about swapping for 'new' bulbs lower running cost's but like Nick mentioned 'recover' of cost would take me many , many years !!! 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

Mine look to be £22 for gu10 or £37 for led dimmerble ones, with the 10 year warranty it might be worth the risk Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hi.

Choice of cool white or warm white, and following the advice on the site we chose warm white....a more natural colour and not as harsh as the cool white.....not disappointed!

They also look good when not switched on Wink) Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I wouldn't rule out the cheap ones on Ebay altogether - you need to try them and do the sums. The early ones were poor but the later ones are much better. My son has them in his shop on for 14 hours a day and I get the job of keeping up with them.

These http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...0197161752 are the latest ones I used and are brilliant white and have outlasted the halogens. Not had to replace one yet. Silver 2009 HSE
