You are allowed mains lighting in bathrooms provided the correct fittings are use, they are in the correct zones for the type of light and that all lighting and anything else that is bathroom safe is proteded By an RCD with a tripping currant of not more that 30ma.

To comply with regs recessed spots at 240v only have to be sealed units directly over a bath or shower cubicle, normal spots can be installed in the same wet room to the areas not in direct contact with steam,

Ive fitted these GU10 low energy lamps as a direct replacement to the halogens. Found them to be quite a tight fit and hard to remove from older units after they have failed. They are not pleasing to look at and the light is not as good as the new LED units.

Mine look to be £22 for gu10 or £37 for led dimmerble ones, with the 10 year warranty it might be worth the risk Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis |

I wouldn't rule out the cheap ones on Ebay altogether - you need to try them and do the sums. The early ones were poor but the later ones are much better. My son has them in his shop on for 14 hours a day and I get the job of keeping up with them.
