I don't think that is for you to decide, and since when do wider tyres make a car boy racer! I don't know what your problem is on this, as life would be very oring if we all had the same opinion on things. If you spend most of your time on the road then wider tyres will provide more grip, which is not a bad thing for handling and braking. The Fl2's handling is great but that doesn't mean that it can't be better. |

So was this ever resolved? Did the 255/55/18 tires fit? |

I couldn't afford to do it right in March 08 having just forked out for the vehicle it self. But my standard 235/60/18 Goodyear Wranglers have now done 25k Miles and are begining to look like they will need changing, so It's time I started to reaserch things again. I'm still worried about voiding the warranty on the complete drive train if I do put something different on, It would be interesting to know if anyone has experience problems in this regard?

Hi! Finally went for it. 255/60/18 General Grabber AT2's fit absolutely fine. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. Freelander 2 XS 2.2 TD4 Met Black, with Winter pack, 18" alloys with General Grabber AT2 wellies, MANTEC Sump and Tank Guards |

Here a good legal option to fit 255/60R18 or other formats on Freelander 2:

Shouldn't need spacers\adapters to fit 255 tyres on the FL2......or? |

Are you sure the tire didn't touch the tubular housing containing the shock absorber? I know that as long as the rear is concerned, for a 235 type tire the distance between the tire and the vertical tubular housing is less than 1 cm. And 255 means 1 cm more for both inside and outside... Did you checked? |

I agree with your calculations and had great concerns, to the exstent that I had special 6mm spacers made up, but when I had them fitted I went to JSF http://www.jsf4x4.co.uk/ Land Rover Specialist and together we checked everything very carefully. I Still have 3-5mm clearance and did not need any spacers.

For the 2008 LR2, just got the Pirelli Scorpian A/Ts 235/60/18 (OEM size), on a set of refurbished 2010 12 spoke 18 wheels. Couldn't find the ATRs, which were first choice, and "available" per the Pirelli website. Very happy so far.
