Question Question What is the point of putting wider tyres on a FL2 Question Although its a great car, it will never compete with the cornering properties of my ex-BMW. I would have thought the boy-racer image would dissolve when one gets behind the wheel of a LR Question

I don't think that is for you to decide, and since when do wider tyres make a car boy racer! I don't know what your problem is on this, as life would be very oring if we all had the same opinion on things.

If you spend most of your time on the road then wider tyres will provide more grip, which is not a bad thing for handling and braking.

The Fl2's handling is great but that doesn't mean that it can't be better.

So was this ever resolved? Did the 255/55/18 tires fit?

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

I couldn't afford to do it right in March 08 having just forked out for the vehicle it self. But my standard 235/60/18 Goodyear Wranglers have now done 25k Miles and are begining to look like they will need changing, so It's time I started to reaserch things again. I'm still worried about voiding the warranty on the complete drive train if I do put something different on, It would be interesting to know if anyone has experience problems in this regard?

My local 4x4 specialist has confirmed they will be happy to try a set to make sure they fit ok before I finally buy which is good.

I'll keep you posted over the next few months. Freelander 2 XS 2.2 TD4 Met Black, with Winter pack, 18" alloys with General Grabber AT2 wellies, MANTEC Sump and Tank Guards

I see. Smile Thanks.
Thinking about putting on either the Toyo proxes ST or the Pirelli Scorion zero in 255\50\19.

Are you sure the tire didn't touch the tubular housing containing the shock absorber?
I know that as long as the rear is concerned, for a 235 type tire the distance between the tire and the vertical tubular housing is less than 1 cm.
And 255 means 1 cm more for both inside and outside... Did you checked?

I agree with your calculations and had great concerns, to the exstent that I had special 6mm spacers made up, but when I had them fitted I went to JSF http://www.jsf4x4.co.uk/ Land Rover Specialist and together we checked everything very carefully. I Still have 3-5mm clearance and did not need any spacers.

For the 2008 LR2, just got the Pirelli Scorpian A/Ts 235/60/18 (OEM size), on a set of refurbished 2010 12 spoke 18 wheels. Couldn't find the ATRs, which were first choice, and "available" per the Pirelli website. Very happy so far.

Hoping only to be able to plow through whatever unplowed snow we get here in Wash., DC this winter. Was 25" one weekend last winter, so no joke.

There seem to be no ideal options for the sweet 19" shadow chrome OEM wheels we have, Conti 4x4 OEMs. Very limited tire selection in the 19s, and even the 18s for the LR2. Sought import of UK 16s or 17s, but would be at great expense and then not sure of fitment (UK diesel drivetrain different, perhaps including different lug pattern, offset, and center hole diameter -- not sure).

Only unhappy is with stock 18's clearance -- can't get chains fitted on rear wheels (or larger tires all around) given 5mm or so clearance between rear tires and rear struts. Only option for either seems to be spacers, but not sure these are available in North American Specs (NAS). In Europe, they seem to have options. SKK? (German I think), offers spacers for the Freelander II there. Not sure these will work in US.

Anyhow, will report back on LR2 with P-Scorp A/Ts after our January run up to Montreal for skiing. Hoping for the best.
