2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Baltic Blue
New Front Bar

Hi,
I'd like to know what you guys think of our new product the Endura FPS. It is designed to work like a traditional nudge bar BUT have the additional benefit of reducing the risk of injury for pedestrians. Also of course it does protect the car in minor incidents. The Freelander 2 has not rated very well in the latest testing by Thatcham for cost of repair. The use of our product will help with this and we are intending to test at thatcham to show the difference.
Please take a look http://www.endura-fps.com/webstore/search....&sort=
and let us know what you think. We still need to test this vehicle to the new EU regulations 2005/66/EC but can make this a prrority if people like it.

Many thanks for your opinions in advance.

Unless your knocking Kangaroos out of the way

I think it looks awfull even if it was painted to match the bodywork, it looks like its from another car and doesn't fit at the top edge.

That my opinion, spoiling a nice front end, but if you need one its upto you. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Baltic Blue

Hi Npinks,
thanks for your comments, nice avatar by the way Smile
In order to get the maximum pedestrian protection the idea is that the bar needs to cover the bonnet leading edge so that the childs head form test passes ok. Please see the test video http://www.endura-fps.com/ec-approved-fps/...urrent.php
We are the manufacturers for the Landrover Discovery and Range Rover front bars and they are made using the same technology. The Endura bar however has been designed to be as universal as possible and the regulations regarding where it is mounted to the car are set by the EU regs.
I'd be glad of any comments good or bad. We did a design specific for this car but it would mean new tooling. this is the picture of the bespoke bar we did. https://www.freel2.com/gallery/displayimag...&pos=0
again comments are very welcome, good or bad.

Well, in Norway we have this problem of many cars colliding with a moose. A quite animal weighing almost a ton.
Dont know how much a kangaroo weighs, and maybee these bars will do for kangaroos, but I am afraid that these bars are a little insufficent for moose...... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

Get the LR one - looks alot better and has been designed to protect pedestrians and the vehicle. And it has been designed so that it doesn't effect the operation of the air bags.

How do the middle two parking sensors work on these, with an extra 6" of rubber protuding from the front, won't you be touching walls and things before the sensors give the continuous beep.

The non landrover model looks to cover the area where sensor holes are? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

M burton 2, yes Thatcham do assess cost of repair for UK insurance compaines and that forms part of the group rating that cars get. Please see here an example of the testing they do, not just security.
http://www.thatcham.org/bumpers/index.jsp?page=142

We work closely with Landrover as we are the suppliers of the Disco 3, Defender and Range Rover FPS's (Frontal PRoetction Systems) and there is no approved FPS for freelander 2. Only a front styling cover which is just a clip on plastic cover and does nothing for pedestrian protection. It meets the requirements because it comes under the weight limit. for testing.

Freelander 1 did have an FPS released from Landrover, but as this does not meet the new regulations, Landrover have stopped selling it. Some independant dealers might still have stock, but they can't get them from Landrover any more.

On Our car the sensors on the outside work fine and beep when they are supposed to. Apparently the bar is so close to the middle sensors they just turn off, if it were further away they would sens it and beep continuously. But they don't.

Our director has this bar on his car and according to him the sensors work fine.

Does cost of repair really warrant putting this on the front of your car, if you knock somebody or something Kangaroo/Moose like over i presume a trip to the local bodyshop and a dozen insurance claim forms are going to be needed anyway.

So since your insurance company is paying out, why not have them repair a car without "ugly rubber" as a claim is a claim, you'll effect your No claims bonus anyway (if at fault) if there is a kids head involved they be claiming anyway (or at the parents will) and if you just damage the ugly rubber in the impact your going claim to repair/replace that and investigate if further damage is behind the scenes. (surely these can not take multiple large impacts) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

OK, I need to re-word that a little...
Part of the NCAP testing is pedestrian safety, which the FL2 scores top-marks in....

The Original Freelander scored pretty low, but the FL2 got top-marks...so there is not really (That I can see) a reason for adding this.....UNLESS it provides additional fixing points, that could be used to add spot lights??
OR, you like it..THAT part is down to the individual '57 FL2 GS

I wouldn't buy one either. I'm afraid if I'd wanted that level of visual finesse, I'd have bought a Hummer.
