Does anyone know how the SD4 can have more BHP than the TD4 but have exactly the same consumption figures ?. |

Probably down to the fact the engine doesn't have to work as hard to propel the vehicle.

The cycle on which the emissions and fuel economy are measured does not use full load (full power) from the engine so the two different areas of the fuelling map can be calibrated independently. The SD4 max/power fuel and turbo settings are different from TD4 but the road load map is the same. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Absolutely ![]() The way the test is carried out, it's very easy for the manufacturers to tune for excellent mpg under the completely artificial conditions of the test and this is one example of it happening. Ignore official mpg figures, they are completely meaningless. You're much better off going for a decent test drive and zeroing the trip computer at the beginning of the test and checking the mpg at the end. The worst example of a misleading official mpg figure I found like this was a new shape 520d touring - official mpg around 55, observed mpg over around 40 miles, around 27 ![]() |

Thanks all, just curious really, the figures are not just similar but exactly the same ?, 0-60 time is vastly different though. Only ask the question because we collect out new SD4 XS on Saturday having had a TD4 XS for 3 years. |
