SD4 power

Does anyone know how the SD4 can have more BHP than the TD4 but have exactly the same consumption figures ?.

Probably down to the fact the engine doesn't have to work as hard to propel the vehicle.

The manual TD4 (in theory) has a better fuel consumption than both the TD4 and SD4 automatics.

The cycle on which the emissions and fuel economy are measured does not use full load (full power) from the engine so the two different areas of the fuelling map can be calibrated independently. The SD4 max/power fuel and turbo settings are different from TD4 but the road load map is the same. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

You will often get more MPG out of a bigger engine/higher powered one up to a point with the same body.
For instance a Ford Escort L 1300cc say does 40mpg but a Ford Escort GT with a 1600cc engine will do 45mpg, if driven carefully.
The 1300 has to be flogged through the gears to get it up hills and keep up the pace where as the 1600 will go up the same hill without changing down so the engine is more relaxed about it.
A smaller engine in the same size body doesnt always mean better economy, thats why.

Absolutely Thumbs Up

The way the test is carried out, it's very easy for the manufacturers to tune for excellent mpg under the completely artificial conditions of the test and this is one example of it happening.

Ignore official mpg figures, they are completely meaningless. You're much better off going for a decent test drive and zeroing the trip computer at the beginning of the test and checking the mpg at the end. The worst example of a misleading official mpg figure I found like this was a new shape 520d touring - official mpg around 55, observed mpg over around 40 miles, around 27 Shocked

Thanks all, just curious really, the figures are not just similar but exactly the same ?, 0-60 time is vastly different though. Only ask the question because we collect out new SD4 XS on Saturday having had a TD4 XS for 3 years.

Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

Had my 10my TD4 auto ecu remapped (NOT a box) similar to SD and fuel comsumption improved by 5-8 mpg normal driving and motorway 70ish+
Also improved performance.
Same old story with Cortina 1.6 single choke Solex or VV carb against 2.0 with twin choke Webber. 2.0 far better on fuel unless driven to limit. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone

Hi

What was your main reason for having the remap carried out. ie fuel consumption, improve driveability etc. Plus which company carried it out.
