What Is This Part And Should It be Blanked Off?

All,

This is going to be difficult to explain without being able to post a picture directly from my PC so here goes (there is a picture on my gallery which will explain all.).

At the rear of the engine cover (2.2 TD4), hidden below the inlet air ducting, to the drivers side where the ducting disappears down the side of the engine, there is a small black metallic unit. Mine has what appears to be a copper washer on top with a threaded hole (8mm thread). Can anyone (from my iffy description) tell me what this is? Is there supposed to be a blanking screw / bolt in this?

As I mentioned there is a picture on my gallery.

Many thanks (and sorry for the poor description),
Chris

Just had a look under my bonnet and other than having a layer of "oil" from the duct above has exactly the same threaded hole Confused

Thanks for the reply.
To be honest I only noticed it yesterday by accident. I removed the sump cover shield to change the oil and a loose 8mm bolt dropped out. Checked all over and found it had come from a bracket which holds the air ducting (Strange that this nut should come adrift as this section of ducting is not normally removed for any servicing). It was only then that I noticed this other threaded hole.
Thumbs Up

Just had a look at mine and its got a thingy screwed into it Shocked
Looks a bit like a pawn chess piece, a cone shape with a ball on top, it looks like black plastic material.
Nothing is fitted to it/on it.
Looks as something may snap onto to it for location or pivoting on, maybe for some foreign market assessory perhaps?

If you look at the other end of the engine cover you will either find another hole or a "pawn thingy" (thank you Mona Geeza!).

I think this is all down to the universal nature of engines nowadays. That is to say that the PSA/Ford 2.2 diesel is not only fitted to the LR2 and in other incarnations I think you will find that the plastic acoustic cover (the black plastic cover on the top) is held by "popping" it onto those "pawn thingies" using "hole thingies" in the cover. This is how it works in my wife's Peugeot anyway. John

Just checked mine and there was no caravan around it, oh and mine was as per your vehicle - un-blanked and brass insert showing.

Sounds a little like a grease nipple?seems a bit elaborate for a fixing point.

mine has the pawn/grease nipple shaped stud in that location.

also this is the spot where the oil drips out of the ducting before the fix was done.
