I signed up and it looks decent enough. You can opt to receive texts or emails or even calls about crime in your area and 4x4 related incidents are a specific area of interest which can be selected to receive updates about.

There is also a map which displays any area you choose and shows crime stats dating back to December 2010 and tells you how many burglaries have occurred in that area or vehicle thefts etc.
