Peak 4x4 Response

I found this info today and I am thinking of joining. I think I will buy some Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extreme tyres if I do though. They provide training apparently.

Here is the website: http://peak4x4response.org/

What do you guys think? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Down south we have the SE4X4 who do a lot for the emergency services. In the weeks of the snow they were called on a lot to get medical staff into hospitals, help stranded ambulances, collect people who needed vital regular hospital treatment and one of the team was stationed at a blood bank in London to get supplies out when their existing vehicles could not get out.
Some of them may even have some flashing amber lamps. Thumbs Up 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey

I joined the Yorks & Lincs 4x4 response network last winter, wish I never bothered as they are a joke.

Run properly they could be a useful service but agree with the other post, they are mainly wannabe heroes with tatty cars (with amber strobes) and very little if any proper driver training or ability.

The only jobs I got asked to do were regular night shifts for the Out of Hours Doctors with no pay. OK, it's meant to be a volunteer service but these organisations pay their normal drivers so I said that unless in extreme situations where there was urgent need it was crazy to expect volunteers to take on the role on a daily basis for nothing.

They are all independently run though so I accept that some regional services may be better run.

I think i also read that they need to CRB check you and you need to have valid insurance coving what your doing, lots of expense for a voluntary thing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yes, NFU cover you for response work so no extra cost incurred. I did not need a CRB check but did have to agree to comply with various child protection policies which prohibit carrying under 18's without the presence of another adult.
