command shift without sports mode. select sand TR select command shift the de select sand back to normal TR voila command shift but not sports

why you ask? because you can, why else


obviously this is in a RRS but maybe the same in an fl2

I've found on motorway cruises it helps to force the car into 6th gear as it tends to want to stay in 5th ,and have found due to extensive testing that command shift doesnt need to be defaulting to sports.

I'm now sick of motorways after week of twice daily non stop return journeys to the same place... dont ask


bloody comfortable car mind I was sat in the back today as Mrs G drove, legroom is amazing ( she does move the seat right forward and up) I had to undo the seatbelt to reach the seat back infront of me At work

Interesting point CG. I was under the impression though that if, after going to Sport mode, once you used Command Shift Sport mode 'disengaged' - effectively leaving you with a 'manual' gearbox with auto downchange.

So glad your personal envelope has increased and you can't touch anything  Freelander 1 TD4 HSE - gone, 2 weeks after the Cat.Converter!

Command shift is command shift

As Razmabaz says, once in command shift, sports mode is disengaged, to force into sixth, knock the lever left and forward, no fiddling about with TR?

The lardy aRRSe may want to be in fifth as it struggles in sixth with the extra weight, the more nimble FL2 doesn't seem to have this problem.

Could it be that 'Command Shift' in the 'LardAss' RRS refuses to accept a manual upshift into 6th and if you did manage it, the slightest throttle input senses it is labouring and automatically downshifts.
The FL2 command shift will refuse manual upshifts if RPM is to low to accept it.

Just have to wait until he sobers up to make sense of his ramblings.

when you knock the lever across the car goes to sports mode, then if you command shift the sports symbol on the dash stay on, the the car reverts to 'auto sports mode' when you stop command shifting, not returning to standard auto setting unless you return the stick to 'D'


As for the 6th gear on motorways, quite a few fl2 drivers have mentioned the same thing on here, just check when you are motorway driving in auto that the car has notched up to 6th its often quite happy staying in 5th at legal motorway speed. so simply knock it up a cog once underway. I only discovered this after reading about it on here. At work

Depends how lead footed you are or whether you're on a climb. My car always selects 6th at a touch over 60. So do all the auto FL2's I've driven. I've never known it to sit in 5th at 70. Command shift will allow you to change up at 55, but then there's next to no acceleration, as the revs are well in the turbo lag. The art of driving an auto is to dictate when you want the box to change for you, as it's all based on throttle response. Well said Philsh, auto driving is a technique, not just a lazy stomp n steer exercise.

thats a difference then as the rrs is quite happy in 5th at 65-70, not over reving just happily cruising, its only when you command shift to 6th that you realise it was in 5th. once in 6th it stays there for the duration At work

Be interesting what sort of revs your at, at 70 in 5th and 6th, just for comparision, two very different engines and gearboxes at play here.
