Auxiliary heater

On the spec list of all the good things my FL2 is equipped with, is an auxiliary heater. Now as i understand it, at ambient temps of 5c or less, this little diesel burner should come on and speed the warm up. I have heard of steam / smoke issuing from under the n/s/f wing or left front bumper, when the aux heater is on. The warm up on mine is quite quick, but despite pulling over when the temp gauge has barely moved, i have yet to see any "exhaust". Does anyone know for sure where the outlet is? These last few mornings have been around 0c, but i have seen nothing to prove the aux is working, or even there! Rolling Eyes

Ah, you'd be referring to the 'fuel burning heater' or 'wood burning stove' as i used to call it. It's highly unlightly you car will have this as it's not a uk feature.
Cold climate Countries only.
The 'aux' heater is more likely to be the ceramic heater which comes on when you depress the 'prog' button on the heater control panel.
It does work quite well and is very useful on frosty mornings. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

It is equipped with an electrical auxiliary heater fitted in the heating duct, the fuel burning heater is an option.

Interesting point about the 'prog' button. I don't press it on cold mornings I just manually control the heater settings and heated screens but it still gets warm quickly which I assume is this aux heater business cos the engine takes a few miles to warm up inevitably. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

The prog buttom both activates the aux heater and moves the stepper motor in the HVAC unit to screen only. It also increases blower speed and swiches on HFS/HRW and heated mirrors. This is to save you messing about with all the other heater controls for quick demist. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Auxiliary heater

ok gents, so when i remarked how quickly the engine warmed up, on 1st test drive, the salesman was probably mixed up on the equipment of different LR types. He said it had a diesel burner! Anyway, as i understand your various posts, the aux heater it has got, does not affect the coolant, but just the warmed air for the interior, yes?

From what I've know, all big brothers (Disco, RR, RRS, etc) have FFBH (fuel fired burning heater) by default.
FL2 has either an electrical heater for only the cabin, or the FFBH like big brothers, for heating the cooling liquid and implicit the cabin. FFBH is better because helps the engine warming faster and therefore lowers the wear. Especially when you can start the FFBH with a remote control and warm up the car before getting to the car and starting the engine.
But FFBHs on FL2 are only for outside UK...
For example our market has it and the other days, during the service, I've asked them to enable the FFBH to be started remotelly. Now I have to make time in order to build a remote control for it. The OEM one is too expensive for my taste... over 300 pounds.
