A few miles after buying mine I was in Cornwall then back to Yorkshire, average MPG showed as 38.5, haven't a clue on the city commuting trips but probably so crap I'm not interested.

On a motorway run I can get over 37 so happy with that, SWMBO pottering around town is getting 30 to 31 so again happy with that. |

I seem to settle on or around 34 over a few weeks. Considering that it has a 5 mile commute during the week when I dont cycle, which in the winter is everyday, I'm pretty happy with it. My previous A4 returned 40 with the same usage. For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days. |

I have GS auto, I used to get 23-sh when new but after 10000 miles its around 29-33 but on a steady motorway run over 300 miles I managed 42.2 ! I get better MPg on BP I. Don't use supermarket fuel. One tank of that and MPg dropped and the edge went off the performance so it didn't work out a saving |

In the real world, the SD4 auto should see an average of between 26 and 32mpg depending on driving style. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come......... |

I would be really disappointed if I only got that... Average over 7,500 miles is over 38 mpg. Mostly commuting to work. Best Commute (27 miles rural/motorway/city centre) 47.4 on the trip computer. Worst tank 34mog, best tank 41mpg. No messing with the auto-box BTW - just into 'D' and go... Trevor '60 reg SD4 XS (long gone!) |

I think you're being a little pessimistic. I get 34-35 without any special techniques, on an average driving mix. Brian MY11 FL2 SD4 GS Extras to same spec as XS apart from the Satnav, plus Xenons. Ipenema Sand, Ebony. |
