Hi,
thanks for everyone's replies.
Yeah I think I am going mad!
Yesterday some Censored Smashed into the back of the disco4 smashing the lights/bumper/wing. I'm so mad cos this only happened cos I had to go back to the house to pick some gear up for a caesarean (which I would have had with me had I not had the rental car!!!) I'm so angry because the Censored Just drove off without leaving any details! Now Im £500 out of pocket for the insurance excess.

@MightyMildred
I believe you are a vet, can we hope that your animals have better luck around you than your cars Laughing

Read manual and re-set windows (so proud of my very small technical achievement).
Spoke to TVLR and LRCS who are going to arrange a technical manager to see the car and decide whether we are dealing with characteristics of the car (gearbox mountings should have stopped the twitching gear stick).
Turns out the twang is likely to be the ABS pump running a self check.

EYorkshire... Yeah I am a vet... Sometimes I think it's just like being a mechanic- cos you are reliant on an owner reporting a problem then you have to try and figure out how to fix it... In both cases the car or animal can't speak to you and tell you what's wrong.
Although I am famous for curing a cow by saying 'ah what's wrong?' at which point it bleched in my face, walked off and started to eat.

your going to hate this but I seriously love that noise. I deliberately accelerate quickly and let go of the peddle just to get that noise. and re-accelerate again. Whistle

Yeah I still don't like the noise... But I've just got out of an Aston Martin DBS so I hate it even more now!
My ears are still reasonating. Gonna sell Lloyd and get an Aston (I'm so used to ubreliability I won't be able to tell!)
Rolling with laughter
on a more serious note twitchy gear and twangy floor as ever present.
LR techy bod still on his hols (lucky him!) so no further forward.

Don't go down that route. If you think LR are finicky then the Aston will drive you insane - trust me I know from first hand experience. It's a beautiful mistress and demands just as much TLC and money to look after!!

We've been lucky with the V8 Vantage...
Or should I say 'his' car. Never a squeak or real problem... The DBS was lovely but to be honest I like the little beautiful roller skate.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Firenze Red

Had the F2 SD4 Sport LE now for a couple of months.

I am also finding the whistle from the turbo is unbearable.
Been in contact with dealer (Teesside) and Landrover direct.
Told its a characteristic of the car.

Landrover direct told me that it was acceptable to turn the stereo up!

I cant believe it.

Going up a slight incline is like torture.

Whats the latest on your Turbo?
Who is TVLR dealer? Is that Teesside?
If so, who you dealing with?

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

I had a new SD4 auto on loan for three days whilst my 2008 TD4 auto was in for a sorting. The SD4 had 2000 miles on the clock and due to the fact there has been lots of complaints about noisey turbos I had a good listen but never heard any whistle from inside the cabin, with radio off and blower speed on two ! If I put the drivers window down and drove between narro buildings i could hear a faint whistle. I must also add that my hearing is very good and would soon detect a noisy turbo.

I would suggest that if you can hear the turbo from inside the cabin iether the turbo is noisey or there is a bung missing in the bulkhead, or a steering colomb rubber seal is out of place, I would be looking under those pedals to see where the noise is coming in ! as the turbo is right below your drivers feet ! This is where I suspect the problem lies but something the dealers would never think off ! as there is excuse for everything is they all do it !
It may mean putting a smoke pellet near the turbo and shining a torch around the pedal area to see if any smoke appears or shinning a very bright light in the back of the engine bay at night and glancing around the pedal area, but sure this is where you need to concentrate on. Thumbs Up

Example
My Neighbour bought a brandnew Almera auto ! they said was noisey ! went back to the dealer over 20 times in three years and was told nothing wrong ! Just as it was due to run out of warranty they asked me to take a look and under the carpet in the passanger footwell there was a tiny grommet missing allowing all the noise of the autobox to echo up into the car ! Fitted a grommet and the car was 100%.

I haven't got any noticeable turbo noise. I suspect you've got a bad 'un. Try a different dealer. Stratstone Teesside are not the best by any means ... Brian

HI!
Yup indeed this is a characteristic of the car. Team Valley Land Rover (by far the best service/parts/repairers in the North East) even went as far as putting a completely new turbo on the car! AND still it makes exactly the same noise. They also sent Chris (Regional Technical manager) to see my car as I dont like the ABS self check or the synchromesh or the twitching gear stick! RESULT=all within tolerances!
PM me if you wanna chat. I'm in the next dale from you.
