dealer price for rear pads....JOKE

Just thought i'd tell you about the price my local dealer(hunters) was going to charge me for replacing the rear pads which was £180!! lol. Rolling with laughter
when i had picked myself up off the floor i inquired how much just for the pads...£47+vat lol Rolling with laughter when i had picked myself up off the floor once again i left with my sides killing me after laughing so much.
Went to my local motor factor and purchased a set of rear pads for my freel2 for the pricely sum of £17.05!! Thumbs Up
now i know they are not genuine but they will last at least two years and they took 35mins to replace and i saved over £160 so
i don't care that they are not genuine and it makes me wonder who the dealers are trying to kid
hope this makes you think twice before telling the dealer to go ahead when they ring you tutting and saying these are in a very bad state and recommend we do them right now!!! tell em to go get............. Censored
cheers

Totally agree. I wont be using a dealer for anything my local garage can do (or even me) for a fraction of the price.

Can I just check with you fine DIYers.

Am I right in saying I need 2 x 18mm ring spanners to undo the lower bolt on the calipers of the FL2.

take wheel off undo two bolts at rear of caliper, slide caliper apart, clean and re-assemble, simples assuming caliper isnt heavily corroded and/or piston stiff. mine are ok after a quick disassembly this morning.

disc removal simple enough, but there will be some fiddles with the hand brake shoes inside I'm sure.
adjust hand brake whilst in there through the port in the disc hub.

tools required.

trolley jack
two blocks of wood
wheel brace,locking nut key
1 spanner , size I forget
wd40
copper grease
cup of tea, digestive or scone. X2 if you have an assistant
officially you need a torque wrench to check caliper bolts and wheel nuts, alternativly f'ing tight works for me At work

You need 13mm and 15mm spanners, sadly you will probably find your handbrake shoes are knackered too so will have to get new ones, If your local factors have none and you need them in a hurry you may have to pay full price from your dealer Evil or Very Mad .. more than the price of the discs and pads combined Big Cry

still all fixed now at a fraction of dealer rates Thumbs Up At work

Its rare to have to replace the hand brake shoes unless you drive round with your hand brake on lol. Alittle lubrication when rear pads are changed then you shouldnt have any problems unless your wading in salt water etc. every two or three months while driving about 25 miles an hour just pull your hand brake on for about 100 yards or so, just enough to keep the inside of the disc drums to be cleaned of rust build up then you wont go far wrong Thumbs Up
