Also i need to decide on what i am doing with been right handed and left eye dominant, do i shoot one eye open, have my shooting glasses modified with a dot, or learn to shoot left handed, it also doesn't help that i am slightly long sighted in my left and slightly short in my right Big Cry

I am the same. My coach explained that the best thing to do is keep both eyes open. After a while your brain gets used to it and double vision is not a problem any more...

As for a gun, get something that fits well. I would go for a second hand if I were you and definitely not spend more than £1000. There is SO much available under £1000 that you will have no problem at all. Also, I recommend a grade 1 gun, unless you are a collector or have spare cash to spend. After all, you want to shoot the shotgun and not worry about the wood finish every time you take it of the gun slip...

Totally agree on your under 1k remarks.
You wont hit any more clays if you spent 10k. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I have looked at cheaper guns, new and second hand

Problem is a cheap new gun will not holds it's money and when I want to trade up it means more outlay, a cheap Lanber sport deluxe £800 and only worth in region of £400 a year later, were as something like a new beretta silver pig will be worth alot more, taking into account warranty also 3 months, compared to 3 years if I go second hand

Looking at second hand guns, there is some nice examples if you look about, saw a nice looking Beretta White onyx for £1000 private sale, but no warranty or comeback if it went pair-shaped, cheaper guns start looking battered, so having had a long hard think about it, I think I'm going new, unless I stumble across a deal that can't be missed out on Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

A game gun will have a narrow rib, slightly different stock dimension and
will be quite a bit lighter.

A clay gun ( a sporter ) will have a wider rib, this will help disperse the extra
heat generated from shooting more cartridges. The gun will have more weight
to it, this will help absorb more of the recoil from shooting a lot more
cartridges.

If i had only one gun and shot both game and clay's I would buy a sporter and
not a game gun.

Shooting a sporter at game, only down side is you'll have to carry a heavier gun
around all day.

Shooting a game gun at clay's, it will recoil more, it will get hot and very hot in
the summer and that along with the narrow rib will reduce your sight line.

What ever gun you buy it will be a compromise.

If the warranty is important to you, and it should be, GMK the
company that imports Berretta are second to none for back-up
and any warranty work, if you shound need it.

GMK is part owned by Berretta and i think that helps.

The importers of Brownings & Miroku's are no upto much, I know
this from experience.

If you buy a Berretta, if it's right for you, you do get excellent
services from GMK.

well i have ordered it with Vic at Swillington, should be in, in 2 or 3 weeks time

Good company, very local to me if required, that alone makes it worth while, as i don't have to do a big drive to have them fix or check things out, as you say the GMK backup of Beretta

So i now await my Beretta Silver Pigeon 1 30" R/H Sporter Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I actually missed this thread. Just went online and it was all over. What did the thread say?

Also, I own a Miroku game/sporter. I can tell you with great confidence that it shoots well clays, pigeons, ducks and geese. Chose a gun that fits you well, don't pay too much attention on whether it is a sporter or a trap gun. As a matter of fact, a sporter is more versatile, if anything. Get a gun that feels good in your grip and you feel comfortable with.
