Somewhat OT, but where do you get to go 150km/h? Perhaps it is meant to whistle when going that fast to get you to slow down Razz 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

Thanks again everyone Smile
TVLR have ordered new turbo BUT there's no eta on delivery Sad
I think it's just easier to replace the turbo than spending days and days trying to find out the exact bit that whistles whilst it works Wink
I'm sooooooo disappointed in this car. I'm wondering whether I'm so flat because I originally went from an 06 focus ghia to an 08 FL2 SE (Mildred). I was so happy with her, every day (and even being dragged out of my bed during the night to a calving) I'd smile and think 'what a fantastic car'. Now I have a similar car with issues mildred didn't have. She just needed a service, mot, discs and pads...
I've now discovered another problem... When you drive off from cold, you can hear and even feel what I can only describe as a 'twang' in the drivers footwell!
So it's going back to TVLR next week... Hopefully will get the turbo done, gear twitchy stick looked at and twang sorted.
Happy days!

Hope it turns out good for you, disappointment can be a real downer but I'm sure it will all come good Thumbs Up

twitchies are fairly easy to diagnose but twangs need special tools and if done incorrectly can result in a double dong which I'm told can turn into schitzophrenia resulting in thinking you are driving a Tata Safari, and all the twitchies, twangs and dongs are normal. Laughing

The twitchy gear stick- guys at TVLR going to investigate when they replace turbo... I just hope that will be soon. My neighbours are awaiting delivery of an identical vehicle so I'm desperate to see how it compares to Lloyd.
Hope everyone is having fun with theirs! Kinda wish I'd gone for an SD4.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Rimini Red

Hi MM

My My11 150ps manual 'twangs' as you set off as well - sounds like the HDC just kicks in for second? Is this the same as yours? Let me know outcome if it is. Not noticed any side effects though.

Must admit that I have been very impressed with my new freelie - swapped from an 08 plater like you. Motorway drag over 510 miles at legal limit last week showed 46 mpg overall - the last one could only dream of this figure.

Hope you get your problems sorted soon.

Hi DrownedRat,
Lloyd is booked in at TVLR on wednesday to have the 'minor' niggles fixed... Now have a dash rattle too (stops if you press hard on the fascia around heating controls).
When he was booked in this morning, had a chat with one of the guys who said the twang could be the handbrake cable twanging off the prop shaft.... So I would suggest you pop back to your dealer and get it checked Smile

My mpg is running exactly the same as it was with mildred and her winter tyres -33.3 so I'm convinced lloyds lacklustre performance and relatively poor mpg is down to the turbo/engine configuration not being 100%

hope you having fun with yours.

MM

Well, took Lloyd to TVLR this mornng. To have the following attended to:
1.) Turbo replaced (drove my neighbours identical car last night and it's perfect- no loud whistle, quicker (not SD4!), much better fuel consumption too).
2.) Twang under floor when moving off.
3.) Twitching gear stick.
4.) Dash rattle, panel near heating controls.
I'm now driving a Citroën c1 as a courtesy vehicle, it's simply horrendous. TVLR I love you guys and I'm very grateful for a loan vehicle but the C1 is the worst car I've ever driven!
Anyways enough moaning!
Will post tomorrow if Lloyd comes home Smile

Good luck with TVLR. Also following with interest. New MY11 SD4 XS with louder than expected turbo whistle when accelerating over 1800 rpm's. Stratstone dealer says everything is normal but the demonstrator I tried had no whistle at all.

My whistle is between about 1600 and 2200 revs and think it is getting worse.
Was in at dealer on Tuesday and although service guy couldn't hear it they had it in and claimed that they reseated a pipe to intercooler. Didn't fix it. Difficult because I'm sure he genuinely couldn't hear it, but its definitely there.

He claimed turbo doesn't kick in until 2500 revs - is this right?

Waiting to hear how MightyMildred gets on. To me it sounds more like a leak than a problem with the turbo.
