G'day All,

My first post here. I've joined the forum simply to add to this thread (which I've been following since Day 1).

The idea of adding two stroke to diesel is well covered on the internet and is not a new subject. It has been around for many years and well before this thread commenced. I'd go as far as saying the subject must be one of the most hotly discussed subjects on forums worldwide, often with threads spanning years, with hundreds of pages of replies and many thousands of readers. There seems to be at least one 2 stroke thread in every motoring forum with diesels and the same questions are asked time and time again.

Many forums are not in English and I've not read or fully understood them all that's for sure, but in the thousands of posts that I have seen to date, I have yet to find a link to even one "official" report regarding testing of a two stroke/diesel blend, good or bad, and I would define "official" as a comment or document produced by, or on behalf of either an engine, component or vehicle manufacturer.

As YF suggests above, the German forums in particular have a vast amount of information and are perhaps the most prolific. The fabled 'Sterndocktor' was indeed a knowledgeable technical source before his disappearance from the topic around 2007. YF, please let us know if you have a link to Sterndocktors whereabouts or current pseudonym.

The oft referenced "Diesel Place Study" is the only documented laboratory testing I have located and, being related to the US market where diesel really only lives in trucks, is open to interpretation and leaves a lot unsaid. The base sample of untreated ULSD fuel which "would likely cause damage to any fuel delivery system" is a good starting point, but what about a test of everyday 'at the pump' fuel complete with additives. The results could be quite different.

Testing specific to Euro standard vehicles, fuels, emissions etc. is nowhere to be easily found on the net. I realise that for many many reasons, no vehicle manufacturer is ever going to recommend in the owners handbook that a concoction of 2 stoke oil is acceptable. But given the widespread and huge interest in this subject, there must be industry documentation out there somewhere. And I've visited tribolgy forums too without success.

YF, until now I've only ever found your posts to be entirely credible, but I'd very much appreciate it if you or anyone else within the industry would simply point to the testing records and not to reading on other forums. In the alternative you could perhaps refer us to links to any publicly available Judgement or proceeding issued in the German Courts relating to diesel fuels.

Until something more factual appears, I take all I read as anecdotal.

The use of 2-T oil for "diesel fuel of unknown origin" is recommended by VW in the handbook for the Amarok, by MB in the handbook for the G-model. So this information is indeed "official"

But i can not see anything on adding 2T oil to the diesel, BUT, that could be due to the online manual been out of date or something, I presume the ADBlue is something completely different as it has its own filler tanks

I wouldn't want that in my tank.
I'd like to see these handbooks. I couldn't see any references to 2 stroke either Nick.
Please post links if anyone has found them - or scans perhaps if anyone happens to have a 'real' copy.

Adblue is urea, It doesnt go into the engine ,It is stored in an extra tank and is sprayed into the exhaust system to clean the fumes. fitted to many trucks, buses and now some tractors. meaning more expense for us down trodden farmers At work

Thanks YF for clearing this up now. Alex_P and other forum contributors will no doubt be relieved Wink

I think it is important to mention here that the directive given in those manuals refers to "adding lubricity" something that was hotly debated here over the last couple of weeks.

The previous owner of my wife's Disco3 got stuck in Botswana with a konked out CRD pump and injectors at only 130'000km. The car had to be brought back to Pretoria Sad on a low bed truck. Had he used 2sO in his diesel this wouldn't have happened. Wink With kind regards

Hi guys Adblue urea (Harnstoff in German) is used to reduce the harmful components of diesel exhaust fumes. It has nothing to do with the DPF.

As CG quite correctly points out, this is injected into the exhaust tract after combustion. There is some very interesting research being done at EMPA/ETH in Switzerland currently on this subject. With kind regards

I will go today to the VW and MB dealers and study carefully the indicated manuals.
Also I will talk with them to see and hear if they know about it.

Went to VW.
This is the documentation I've studied: presentation info, user handbook, service plan.
Below you will find all the relevant information regarding fuel and refueling.
Sorry it's in Romanian, but I will try to translate as correctly as possible.

Service plan:
- change fuel filter every 10000 km if using diesel fuel with more than 2000ppm sulphur
- drain water from fuel filter each 20000 km if using diesel fuel that not comply with EN590
- change fuel filter every 40000 km if using diesel fuel that not comply with EN590, otherwise each 80000 km
- in harsh conditions, the DPF must be changed if ash content is over the limits - check this with diagnostic equipment

User manual:
- the car isn't designed for bio-diesel only. it is forbiden to refuel with biodiesel only.
- biodiesel is allowed, only if added as per EN590 or DIN51628
- the engine is exclusively designed for diesel fuel. do not add petrol, heavy fuel or any other improper fuels
- using high sulphur content fuel will shorten the DPF life

- diesel fuel must comply with EN590 or DIN51628
- the additives, so called fluidising substances or any other substances, must not be mixed with diesel fuel.
- in cold conditions use only diesel fuel with different temperature characteristics.

Long story short: not a word about 2T oil in VW Amarok documentation. Sorry...
And I can't believe that exactly the 2T oil info is left out in Romanian documentation...

Went to MB.
They told me that the online documentation is up to date.
I've seen the Romanian user manual which is a word by word translation of the online documentation. (because of that sorry, no pictures)
As for online documentation, npinks has posted a link a few messages above.
So neither in MB G-class user handbook any words about 2T oil...

Conclussion:
YF, I will kindly ask you again: Could you please make a photocopy of the sections of official documents that allow VW Amarok and/or MB G-class to use 2T oil and post them here?
Pretty, pretty please...
I, for one, I couldn't find any reference(s) in the above user handbooks...
